    Re-Introducing the Snap Feature

    To the Xbox Team,

I thought I would begin this discussion, or idea really, by telling you how much the Xbox snap feature meant to me. When I was away in school, hundreds of miles away from Baltimore in Chicago, I was able to play Xbox One with my father using the snap feature so
that while we played games it was like we were in the same room. Over the course of five years it allowed us to see each other almost every night and bond while being so far from one another. I didn't know this, but upon finishing my masters degree, that
same month my father was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer and in six weeks he passed away. Had it not been for this feature, so much would've been lost during what we thought was just a period of time before we could see each other again. The feature
brought us together in a way no other gaming console could have.

That said, I understand the reason for its removal. Being able to speed up the Xbox operating system and the various processes that are required and take up memory resources while it isn't being used may not justify it being a built-in feature. Still, for
those of us that have benefited and those that may benefit in the future from the closeness that such a future brings, I ask if it may be possible to have an additional application or perhaps to work with Skype to make such things available to the thousands
of people who hang onto the words of the distant people they love. Being able to talk to, physically see, and observe the emotions/reactions of the people you play with was such an amazing experience and I adamantly advocate for the return of such functionality.

If it would be possible or you have a suggestion to make something like that a reality, please let me know and thank you very much.

    Joe Burlas

    :)

  2. Snap feature

now I assume the whole point of snap is to have the ability to do 2 things at once however when I snap anything my main screen goes black and I am unable to get back onto the main screen without closing the snapped app .... Also have tried to broadcast
on twitch Xbox says I'm broadcasting twitch says I am not was wondering if that and the snap issue are related either way anybody know anything about this as I don't see the point I may as well get a ps4 maybe that works how it's meant to .

Bitstream setting-Why forced to choose DTS or Dolby?!

I believe that on the Xbox One the native game audio is NOT encoded and that because of the One's design (seamless switching, Snap, etc.), the Xbox is decoding all encoded audio (from TV, BluRay, etc.), mixing in the other audio from Snap etc., (re)encoding
all of it using the format you select, then outputting. It is not just passing through the source audio and cannot do so without compromising the Snap feature etc. Because of this need to (re)encode, it gives you a choice of formats for the (re)encode.

I liked the snap feature too. You can play a game with friends and have the game taking up the bulk of the screen and YouTube/Netflix/Skype video chat with friends, in the corner. This was one of the biggest evidence Xbox One could multitask...... do two
or more things at once...... now that they took it away..... you can only do one thing at once...... this isn't multitask..... What's the point of the console having an 8 core processor when the software they create..... is changed to do only one task at once.....

However you now get Xbox Support paid staff who moderate on here now since most of the volunteers aren't on here pretty much. They're the official and paid people contracted by Microsoft. So they should have some influence. But it's still best to visit that
    link.

I went there and voiced how Xbox One around launch, left out Xbox Live Features Xbox 360 had (change UI background, better online status, voice messages). I posted on there a few times. I think they got sick of hearing from me so
much they rolled it out to keep me quiet (just joking).

  5. On one hand I do miss the Snap feature. It was useful to have music playing on the side while gaming. You could do this by snapping the browser and playing music through the Amazon Cloud Player for example. On the other though, I
do think that consoles have kind of lost their way on what they want to be.

Do they want to be small form PCs or do they want to be game consoles? Every extra feature just takes resources that could be dedicated to the games.

I wonder if Microsoft could, or would be willing to, add back Snap as a exclusive feature of the Xbox One X? After it it's got power to spare.

As to the moderators. I wonder where they've gone as well. They used to post quite regularly on here but now it's a sight rarer than platinum.

Official support staff have been moderating the forums for years but you now see them more frequently as there seems to be only one active mod on here now.

They will tell you to post on the feedback site anyway, they are completely separate from the team that decides what gets put onto the console/home screen.

Personally, never used the snap feature so don't miss it.

    Hey there,

This feature has been temporarily removed due to the sudden influx of users on the system. Once things stabilize, they'll most likely re-introduce the feature.
