Rare suffers layoffs

Following policy changes and poor sales the studio has let 16 people go.

Should the Crysis series be released as a remaster or for BC?

I believe most of those layoffs (if not all) were in the phone division

 

Not surprising. Rare is a shadow of their formers selves. In fact, they're Rare in name only these days. Hopefully Phil Spencer can get them working on real games again instead of kinect garbage and avatar clothes.

 

Very unfortunate. Such a talented developer, even today, that is forced to do exactly what the typical gamer doesn't want.

 

I loved Rare during the Super Nintendo/N-64 days! While it's sad people have lost their livelihood, Rare hasn't been relevant to me in years.

The last time I remember Rare being worth a damn was the N64 era. They were going downhill during the Gamecube era, before the Kinect was even a thing.

But everyone said the K2 was going to be awesome!! What happened? The K2 only games are failing and MS is taking the K2 out of their bundles. Thought K2 was the future of gaming!!

 

MS decided to pull kinect before Phil Spencer came on scene, he was just a good excuse for the change. It feels good to be vindicated now after months of saying how silly K2 is that MS acknowledges it too.

 

The last decent game they made was 9 years ago, sorry for the people who lost their jobs, but Rare are just a shell of what they used to be especially when they were dumped with making crap Kinect games and avatar junk.

 

@Major Angry Their last decent game was two months ago. They never stopped making very good and enjoyable games, the problem is Microsoft does not allow Rare to make games that people WANT. There has been plenty of documentation and concept art of games
that Rare proposed but Microsoft shot down. Games that would've appealed to Rare fans of old. Rare even straight up said they had Conker 2 sitting on the shelf, ready to be developed, just Microsoft wouldn't green light it.

Kinect Sports are excellent games, but you have to be into that kind of thing, and it's painfully clear that people are not into it anymore, but it's very good at what it does.

Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts was a fantastic game, the problem was people wanted it to be a carbon copy Banjo-Kazooie platformer. Nuts & Bolts wasn't the Banjo game people wanted, thus it failed. Striped the Banjo name from it and create something new, and
Rare would've likely been more successful.

Viva Pinata is by far one of the companies best games, but the Xbox demographic doesn't exactly flock to cute and colorful life simulation games, which was marketed to children.

Kameo was a great game that really deserved more attention than it got. Perfect Dark Zero was hit or miss, I loved it and thought it was excellent, but I saw why Perfect Dark fans hated it.
