Ranking up

In Call of duty: Infinite Warfare, can we rank up in private matches as well such as Team Deathmatch or do we have to be in public sessions to rank up? The reason why I'm asking is because I get sick and tired of random players camping and modding where
they are ruining everything and I thought of inviting friends into private matches to get decent games. Then I found out a rumour about we can't rank up in private matches.

This^^^ Read a dev tweet that said this very thing.

 

You can not rank up in private matches the reason for this is to ensure the game is balanced and players dont go to a private session to boost. If you are having issues with people that camp. I would suggest you to try out some objective game modes like
hard point, domination or kill confirmed. As these game mode require you to move around the map a lot more than team death match or search and destroy do.
