Random downloads

Hi All,

I have a second hand xbox one but my friend has a day one edition from a local shop and both of us keep getting random downloads of games or apps.

My Xbox decided to give me titanfall digital copy. I found this by accidentally starting the game without the disc in the drive. My friend has also just been given the new assassins creed and a few other games too. We aren't really complaining about this
as we now own some games for free but just wondering if anyone else has had this randomly happen to them?

So I checked my recently downloaded and I found out that some things were downloaded including two indie games and some DLC's of games I dont even have. Nothing was purchased but they just got on my xbox somehow. I know for a fact im not gamesharing with
anybody so anyone able to solve this mystery for me?

 

Are you game sharing with each other? If so its likely downloading your games on the other persons xbox.

 

Yup your Xbox One has been set as "home" Xbox by previous owner. All his game and app purchases will be available on your Xbox until he changes it.

 

He swapped me for a ps4 so he wouldn't be downloading anything new to a Microsoft account. Microsoft sharing? So if any of my friends turn on sharing they will all end up giving me the game for Free? That can't be right, surely??

 

No that is right. If someone else had your console previously and had set it to their Home console, anything the purchase will be downloaded on your console unless they set another console as their Home console. It's how the licensing system works on the
One.

 

Ok so if that's the case why did it happen to my mate who bought the day one edition and nobody else has touched it? We have also established that it was a new gold member he was playing with the night before he was playing with and whatever they installed
on their xbox got transferred to his Xbox for download too. So how do I set this up as a ring with my friends so we all buy a game and share it amongst us all?

 

I don't know how it worked out that way on your friend's console, but that's how the Home setting works.

It probably would not be best to use that to share amongst a lot of friends. It could be seen as marketplace theft and you could get banned. It basically works the same as licenses on the 360. When you purchase content it is tied to the gamertag that it
was purchased on as well as the console that is set as the Home console. Anyone using the Home console can access the content on that console. The gamertag that purchased it can download and play from any console.

 

Grim, I doubt your mate only just now noticed that he is getting "free" games on "Day One" edition console if he bought it on actual launch day a year ago.

If he bought it recently and even if it says "Day One" edition somebody may used it to test or play a lil bit and when sold leaving it as "home" xbox. In this day of age never think you are getting absolutely 100% brand new item every time you buy something.

Dont worry as soon as previous owner changes his settings on his/her/friends/family member Xbox to "home" your "chain" will collapse.

I heard about this but never actually tried it yet. I want to make sure I understand you so I can give it a try. If I go over to my nephews house and sign in on his console with my gamertag and set his console to my home xbox he will be able to play my games?
So what if I leave my nephews house and go back to my house, will I be able to play my games at my house and will he still be able to play my games from his house?

 

Yes. You would still be able to play your games at your house as long as you're signed into Live. No one else would have access to the games on your consoles. It's basically the same thing as a license transfer on the 360.

 

So if I go back to my house my nephew wouldn't be able to play my games anymore from his house? All my games are digital too. I would actually have to be signed into another console for people to play my games but if I go home and play my games, nobody will
be able to play them again until I sign in on their console?

 

It doesn't matter what house you're in. It matters which console you have set to be your home console. Any game you purchase from any console will automatically be downloaded to your home console
