Racist and homophobic language on voice chat

Hey everyone,

I recently came across a gamer in a game of Call of Duty who was using severely racist and homophobic language in game chat to other users.

I sent him a kind message on Xbox Live asking him to stop the racism and homophobia.

He replied via voice chat with more racist language, this time directed towards me.

I have everything video recorded, but Microsoft haven't made it easy to report someone and provide evidence.

Does anyone know Microsofts policy with regards to this type of abuse.

To be honest, I'd be disappointed with anything less than a lifetime ban as homophobia and racism has no place in todays world. I don't want to wind down and play video games with the risk of racism abuse coming out of my TV at random points when it's experienced enough on a day-to-day basis.

Does anyone know how to report someone alongside providing evidence.

I read wrong I apologize. You don't really need evidence just report them and Microsoft will do something about it other than that everything else deals with enforcement.

Hi Jamie,

There is no message to report, as it was via in-game voice chat. My intention to send a clip to Microsoft recorded on my phone to insure appropriate action is taken (as I don't see an option to report racism and homophobia - but if there is and I've missed it, you could let me know which is why I've taken the time to write on this).

Could you please expand on your comment about the pandemic and patience? Patience with racism due to the pandemic? Or patience on a response? At no point did I mention any rush (I just queried if anyone knew Microsofts policy with regards to this type of abuse) so I would appreciate an explanation from an Ambassador like yourself...

That's helpful, yeah I didn't expect immediate action. I just hope they allow me to provide evidence to show the level of abuse.

RE the message: the only message was me asking him to stop. His response to this was via in game voice chat - so no messages to report.

...and yes I am aware the pandemic is due to COVID - I work in healthcare and have worked throughout the pandemic.

When I said patience it might take some time for Microsoft to see the report and do something about it. The pandemic is because of covid. Now, with providing proof I don't think that's possible. You might have to wait for a Microsoft agent to help you with that. Now I read that they also sent inappropriate messages to you. Report those and Microsoft should do something about it because someone called me a homosexual and Microsoft did something about it right away. But Either way, something will be done about it eventually Microsoft is trying their best.
