  1. Racing Wheels

With Horizon 2 coming there will certainly be some new people in the market for racing wheels. On the Xbox One, there are currently two options. The Thrustmaster TX and the Mad Catz Pro Racing Force Feedback Wheel. Make sure you do your research before making
    a purchase.

From the reviews I've seen so far - the Thrustmaster is the far better option. It's also currently the cheaper option ($323 on Amazon, versus $399 for the Mad Catz wheel). The Thrustmaster is belt driven and very smooth. The Mad Catz is gear driven which
some people have reported as making a loud grinding sound. Another HUGE difference is that the Mad Catz wheel only supports 270 degrees of rotation and 900 degrees of rotation. The Thrustmaster wheel supports any degree of rotation between 180 and 900 by
    using a sliding scale.

If you haven't raced with a wheel before just know that it makes the game into an entirely different experience. Good luck to those of you in the market for a new wheel!! It's going to be great with Horizon 2!!!

    :)

After a little more research it appears that the Mad Catz does support DOR in between 270 and 900 degrees. You can set the intermediate DOR settings from the in-game controller menu in 30-degree increments. The Thrustmaster supports 180 to 900 degrees and
can also be changed from the in-game controller menu or can be set to one of four presets (270, 360, 540, 900) from buttons on the wheel itself.

I've still got my "old" Fanatec GT2 Wheel, and even though it supports up to 900 degrees of rotation, I've never played a game where I've felt the need to set it anything higher than 270. I think I have both Forza and F1 set to 240, in fact.

It's all a matter of personal preference...I like the feedback to be immediate and precise with as little input as is comfortably possible, and I feel like setting the DOR to anything higher than that takes too long to go from lock to lock when I need to.

  6. Does the GT2 allow you to change the settings on-the-fly?

One of the best features of my Fanatec CSR was the ability to have 5 presets that you could switch on the wheel itself. Each preset held all the settings for the wheel so you could have presets that not only adjusted the DOR but also the Force Feedback,
the Drift setting, the vibration, ACL on/off, etc... On my Fanatec with Horizon and FM4 I almost always kept the wheel at 270 DOR.

The Thrustmaster TX allows you to change the DOR using buttons on the wheel and also allows you to turn auto-clutch on/off from the wheel. I was incorrect in my previous post - the swappable DOR settings on the wheel are 900, 540, 360, 270.

In FM5, I use 270 for F1, Indy and Prototype cars and 540 for most other cars (sometimes 270 or 360 feels good on the Ariel Atom and KTM Xbow). When running 540 or above at racing speed I've found that the higher DOR's don't actually require turning the
wheel that much to make a tight turn (similar to a real car). At low speed I'll actually get the wheel to lock making a tight turn.

Yeah, sounds like the GT2 and CSR wheels are identical in regards to the programmable presets and such. My only problem is that sometimes I forget which game I have assigned to which preset! lol

  9. I would not recommend buying that wheel. But what's right for me might not be right for you.

If you really need a wheel right now and you're on a really tight budget then maybe that's the wheel for you. But, if it were me, I would be saving up and sticking it out with the controller until I'd saved up enough for the TX. If you're anything more than
the most casual console racer - the $100 Thrustmaster is going to be very disappointing to you.

The mad catz wheel is terrible, it grinds and notches like the gears have missing teeth.

Had quite a time sending it back and getting a refund, you have to keep emailing them and ringing them up loads of times.

If you get a TX then make sure you have a fire extinguisher near it, seriously.

I might get a G27+CronusMax or not bother with a wheel at all.

Tox I have the TX and have had no overheating issues. Yes I know that the first models of this wheel had issues with overheating but mine has been fine. I have had it and used it for 2 months strong.

That's a pricey beginner wheel. As for racing better/faster, probably not but the experience is hands down terrific. You will enjoy racing with a wheel.
