Lets say you wipe out off the side of the road.

    Do you

    A. Get back on track fast as possible risking another accident or

    B. Stay to the side until faster cars go by?

    C. Get back on track as soon as it is safe to do so.

If there are other cars circulating the track behind you, you need to let them past without putting them in jeopardy because of your mistake. That's how it is in real-life racing, anything else and you stand a good chance of getting black flagged.

Is it frowned upon to protect a lead by blocking when a faster car is approaching from behind?

In most forms of competitive racing, you're allowed one "move" to defend your position. What constitutes a "move" can often be the subject of debate, but generally, if you're in the lead and a car is behind you attempting to overtake, you're allowed to
come off of the racing line by moving to one side or the other to defend (usually to the inside, since it's generally harder to overtake by going around the outside). Once you perform this move, that's it...you're not allowed to swerve back and forth in a
continuous attempt to block. These rules tend to apply per corner, or per attempt of the trailing car to overtake.

All of this also assumes that you're racing for position with the other car. If you're a lap down (or you're about to be lapped) by the faster car, the proper thing to do is to move off of the racing line as soon as you can safely do so (and without compromising
your own race...for example you don't need to pull off into the grass or anything), and allow the faster car to pass.

All good points. I know there are race games where this does not apply (cat and mouse, last man standing, free for all, etc) but for flat out clean racing this is good to follow. Thanks for your input. Are there specific rule sets for the game varients in
parenthesis or is this usually determined by the host? I dont know if this is done in forza but remember playing these in PGR 2 which was a little less sim and slightly more arcadey

Slightl off topic but how many different game varients like those mentioned above are there? And which is most popular? I prefer a flat out race my self but some other styles of racing can be interesting

Happy to help. I'm not really the one to ask about those other game types though (I can count on one hand the number of times I've played them, tbh...they're just not my cup of tea). I prefer a good straight-up "old-fashioned" race any day.

Not anytime in the foreseeable future, Crunch. Aside from the fact that I'm not down with setting aside a perfectly good Fanatec wheel and either using a controller or purchasing another $400 wheel, times have been pretty rough for me financially lately,
and shelling out the necessary cash for a new system/game/etc. is just not in the cards.

Sorry to hear that. I agree about the wheel. Add it all up and your close to $1000 to play one game. Loving deals with gold though definately helpful to the financially challenged. Xbox live rewards program too
