Quick question about remotes...

I've heard the X Box One media remote doesn't work without Kinect. True? I'm over my girlfriends house and want to buy her a remote, though her console doesn't have a Kinect. Forgot to try my remote with Kinect turned off before leaving the house. The Best
Buy ad states it works but you can't power on/off the console or use the volume button. There is a Mad Catz version and a Insignia version (With Dongle.) at Best Buy that don't mention anything about working with/without the Kinect. Anyone have experience
with any of the three without having a Kinect? I'm assuming the Insignia has the dongle for that reason?

Quick yes/no question about 360 media remotes?

Have you tried ejecting the Game Disc from the Dashboard Menu, by Pressing Y when highlighting the game icon on the Dashboard..?? It's called a SoftButton & uses the same command line as the 360 Media Remote.. But, the Official Media Remote is handy to have,
when you are surfing Zune on the couch though..

Do they have an "eject disc" button? My 360's eject button on the console, for whatever reason crapped out and I've been attempting to play FF13, and am unable to eject my disc, so I need to buy a media remote. Old model or new one both work.

 

is smart glass not an option?

 

She has Smart Glass on her phone, though it doesn't seem to control Netflix very well. Windows 8.1 phone for her.

Yes it is true you cannot power off or up the volume without connect due to how the volume feature works. You are controlling the volume via the infared signal in Kinect talking to your TV same with powering ON/off. Channel changing/menu changing and media
playback all work as the tuners are either coming from an app in X1 or vias USB tuners. The actual TV is separate. Hope that makes sense.

 

Thank you both! Think she can live with not being able to power on/off and volume, if she can navigate Netflix. It's kind of a bummer using the X Box controller as a remote as it always powers down. Heck, I've fallen asleep with her controller watching movies
late at night. Lol.
