Quick Question about Hard Drive

Im giving my Microsoft 250GB hard drive to my nephew since im moving on to Xbox One. I would like the HardDrive to work like New so i'm thinkin about formatting it before giving it away.. My question is, if i Format the hard drive would it still be able
to play original Xbox games (backwards compatible) or would it delete everything including backwards compatibility ??

If I buy a new Xbox slim 4gb will my hard drive from my 250gb slim work on it so all I have to do is swap hard drives?

 

Its shouldn't matter either way. He would need to format it anyway when he puts it in his system.

 

I never had to format mine when I got my new console.I just stuck the hard drive in and starting playing.After formatting your hard drive leave it in your console then connect to XBL.If the update is not found you will be prompted to update which should
give you a clean hard drive but updated to play old games.

 

As far as playing original Xbox games goes, each individual game requires an update to be able to be played.

Not all original titles can be played, there is a list (link below) of all titles that were made backwards compatible.

So if the kid has no XBL connection hes basically out of luck? Well thanks for clearing that up.

 

THANKS EVERYBODY for the help and yes he has XBL.. I guess ill just format the harddrive and help him set it up so he can play some of the old games he use to watch me play when he was younger. (Crash Bandicoot and other similar games)
