    I also have some questions!

1.) games I have downloaded onto my hard drive on 360- will I be able to transfer these to my new hard drive to play on a One?

2.) Unrelated, is there a way to sell my 360 towards a One, I have 200 bucks on my account, and would like to sell my 360 hopefully to make the difference to buy the One

Thanks guys! big fan of the site!

  2. From what I understand and please correct me if I am wrong, you can't just put the game into the disc slot and start playing, you'll need to "download" the game to the console. Doesn't this seem a little dumb to you? I mean our hard drive space fills up
quite quickly as it is. So having to download the games to the console just seems a bit like a way for people to go out and buy bigger hard drives.

Don't get me wrong... I think it's a cool idea.. just not the in direction I hoped it would go in.

I'll be getting Super Meat Boy for sure!

    Questions over Backwards Compatibility

The reason you have to download the game after inserting the disc is because you are downloading the digital version of the game from the store. You are not copying data from the disc to the hard drive. Each game has it's own copy of the 360 emulator that
allows it to run. So the console to run each game exists within the game files and is not stored as a separate app on the Xbox One.

You can easily see this by looking at the size of the arcade games in the preview, for instance Hexic HD is around 55 Mb from the store but the BC version is 623 Mb as it includes the console emulator. All the rest of the games are similar. I think this
allows them to tweak each game individually to allow it to run as well as possible.

One thing I did note from Major Nelson and the software guy (forget his name, Bill something?) in the video from the more in depth discussion is that they currently have no way to support any game that uses USB peripherals or uses the Kinect at all.

  5. HD fills up. But these games are 3 to 8 gigs...not system breaking...

  6. So its all through the Cloud? Then all I really have to do to play a 360 game (with the DLC and game progress) is to move the game data onto the Cloud, pop the game disc into the One, and download the game.

How much space is there on the Cloud? I've never used it so I don't know what its all about or how much space you have.

  7. ?? I played mass effect last night off the internal HDD, I couldn't tell whether it copied off disc or downloaded it. I just inserted the disc and clicked on install, came back and there it was ready to play. The one thing I noticed was it wouldn't install
on external, it is on preview though. The other thing was there was allot of noise on the screen, and I have geometry wars on disc which wouldn't install, it's digital only. For a beta, it's working really well, I even tried to install crackdown, of course
    that won't work yet.

What do you mean noise on the screen?

Mass Effect has film grain on by default, could that be what you are seeing? You can turn that off in the options if you don't like it.

  10. So you have Zero Dark digital on the 360? My ME was off the disc, it wouldn't let me install externally. I'll try Banjo nuts and bolts, I have that on disc.

@Vaynel - I didn't know you could turn the noise off, thanks.

  11. It's the first thing I do, I find it far too strong, for want of a better word, in Mass Effect. They got it right in the second game though.

Bioware added the film grain in an attempt to give it an old sci-fi movie feel.

Yeah it must have been a GWG at some stage as it was in my ready to install. My installs are set to got to external first now. INstalled fine then took about a minute to grab my progress which was 0 from the cloud.

    The way they "did it"?

Perhaps like a lot of windows 95 - XP PC games which Newer versions of windows would not allow to run. They probably with Windows 10 allowed the OS to recognize and run the discs/DDL etc.

It is well known for example that with Windows CE, the Sega Dreamcast via (Forget the name) could not only play Playstation games, but also run them at higher resolutions than even the Playstation itself.

Which is why when people said. "X86 architecture can't do BC." - I replied that. "Can't never could do anything."

Glad someone at Microsoft figured out that can't was an open invitation for pushing the limits of the system as a whole.

As far as number 1 goes, they said that all a dev has to do for the game to be backwards compatible is to tell MS. So if the devs/pubs of Armored Core want it to be, it will. No clue about the rest.
