Question about XBOX ONE RESOLUTION SETTINGS

I have a beautiful 1080p televison at my house, but I came to camp for sometime where I have a fairly decent 32 inch 720p televison. ( I know it is 720p one hundred percent sure, I have the box and it clearly says on the tv)

My question is, when I go to video setting and get the console to pick the best resolution it automatically picks 1080p, which I think looks better. There is a clear difference between setting the console to 1080p and 720p, again my televison is 720p.

Now my question is what benefits/cons am I getting selecting 1080p, other then a bit of noticable color banding? It is just adding fake pixels am I correct? Would I get a more raw or natural looking game selecting 720p which is what my telvison is?

I hope I explained this well

    :)

    Question About Xbox One Resolution

The One provides a max. resoltion of 1080p which means there are a true 1920 pixels in width and 1080 pixels in height. Usually a pc monitor which provides a resolution of 1920x1200 should be able to provide that, too.

Question about XBOX ONE RESOLUTION SETTINGS

If you own a 720p Television / Monitor, it's best to run the resolution that matches it if you attempted to run 1080p on that television / monitor. Chances are that it may not display properly or not display at all and you mentioned, fake pixels as i am,
aware that may be the cause of you running 1080 on the 720 television or monitor. And you would, also need to change the console to run 720p.

Settings - Display and sound - Video output - TV resolution - 720.

If you have more questions please reply back here.

I am 100 percent certain this tv is only 720p, 100 percent. The funny thing is when I pick select recommended settings on my xbox one, it picks the video output to 1080p, and tbh the picture looks much sharper and vivid. Even the televison info says 1080p,
but I am aware it is just displaying the resolution being sent into the televison. I would appreciate anyone to list the pros and cons of selecting 1080 on a 720p televison.

As I said it looks better but it can be a false look also

    Hi hammerhawker,

Often if a TV is 720p and you're trying to force 1080p resolution to it you'll see a distorted image, and the display will not output correctly. If it is working correctly, then the TV is doing some sort of down conversion from the signal itself. That said,
if it works with the 1080p setting, and it looks better, then keep it. If you find you have issues with it, can't play games, see screen tearing, or any other issues, set it down to 720p.
