Question about upcoming Xbox one remote

My xbox one is currently hidden inside a cupboard with my Kinect on top of a wall mounted TV. I am going to purchase the remote when its released as my girlfriend doesn't like using the voice commands or getting the controller out to switch on the tv. Am
I right in thinking I wont be able to control my Xbox with the remote while its in the cupboard or can the Kinect pick up the signal? If not is there something I can purchase to extend the range of the Xbox ir receiver and place it somewhere discreet? thanks
    for any help.

    :)

xbox 1 not changing the channels on vip 722 receiver

I haven't done STB detection since the initial set up. I don't know where to redo that? I don't know what you mean by the last question. Also, Upcoming Rhyme... hold remote close to what? I got the remote changed to 1.

  3. Xbox media remote

Hey there, I'm thinking about purchasing one of the new black media remote but the whole reason I'm buying one is I'm tired of having to turn my Xbox controller on and syncing it after every episode. So my question is will I have to do the same with this
    remote?

Question about upcoming Xbox one remote

From the Microsoft post today about the remote...

"The Media Remote can also control TV/Receiver power and volume through Kinect"

So it look like it does control the Xbox via the infrared receivers on the Kinect.

Thanks for your reply, I understand that's the case however I was more concerned about the buttons that control the actual Xbox such as the home button and the navigation buttons. For example of I press the Xbox home button will it turn on my Xbox the same
way it does when pressed on the controller.

Does the Kinect actually have an ir receiver or is it just a blaster to control the TV and audio receiver?

Question about upcoming Xbox one remote

The official news post about the remote *only* says that Kinect is used for IR blasting your TV and your AV receiver. It doesn't say that Kinect is used to receive the remote's signals for controlling the console itself.

Given that, and given that the console does have its own IR receiver, I'd assume that control of the console itself is direct using the remote. Kinect is just needed for TV/AV control, as the remote does not send signals to those directly.

Remote > IR > Console = console control.

    Remote > IR > Console---Kinect > IR > TV & AV = TV & AV control

I was worried that would be the case. Looks like the remote is a no go for me without moving my Xbox out of its cabinet. Thanks
