Question about speeds needed for smooth multiplayer experience.

I just upgraded by Internet service and here are the results I get from running the network test on the Xbox One. I ran this test 3 times and here the the worst results.

Latency - 134ms / Download - 61.3 Mbps / Upload - 5.6 Mbps / Packet Loss - 0 / MTU - 1480 (Not sure what this means) / Nat type - Open / Detailed NAT Info - Your network is behind a cone NAT (Not sure what this means either)

With this type of results should I have a smooth multiplayer experience in most games?

    :)

  2. Upgraded to fibre optic Broadband made gaming far worse.

In my experience the players with the slowest connections cause the one with fast connections to lag while they themselves are unaffected. Its not fair,I know.My speed is super slow(3mb) and I hear guys with 30mb speeds complain about lag when my game is
    running smooth.

  3. just showing off my connection

I think I'm at 35 down and 25 up right now. Your download speed is really great but your upload speed isn't very good at all. If you do any P2P games and host you'll need a better upload speed in order for all the players to have a smooth gaming experience.

Yep....Though your ping could be a bit lower.

Great Gamer Tag by the way. I have my fingers crossed after we lost so many in the off season.

its about the ping... not the speed.. at least for playing... for DLing and streaming.. that is when the speed counts but for normal gameplay.... you do not need much..

but yeah... that ping is a tad high

do a speedtest.net test.. not the internal Xbox one...

That latency is normal for the UK (not sure where the op is from). I've never had any issue with it tbh.

  7. Your speeds are fine. That ping is rather high, however I wouldn't go with what it says here. Go to www.speedtest.net and see what your results are here.

The ping is a time measured in milliseconds a chunk of data goes back and forth between your device and the server being pinged. I'm not sure what server/s Xbox One uses to test a ping. If the server is in the U.S and you are in Europe for example, the
ping will always be high, no matter how fast your connection speed is. Same would be true the other way around. A high ping would also be the case if you were in New York and the Server was in Los Angeles.

All of your stats could be much much better and we could achieve this if the world logged off the internet.

Speed Tests have their use but you shouldn't read too much into them.

A standard broadband connection is more than enough to let you play online and enjoy yourself.

Though society conditions you to believe that bigger is better you don't actually need a Corporate Broadband Solution for your home broadband.

The best test is playing a game rather than obsessing over figures that will change throughout the day.

  9. Speak for yourself Azrael - everyone's told me that if I set up my connection so it was wired that it would be much better. I finally went through the hassle of setting it up this weekend and have only seen a marginal improvement at best. What I need IS
bigger and better, because what I have right now? It's simply not good enough.

I think your Ping plays a huge part. Most people I would say, have high ping. Most of us don't even live within 10km of a Microsoft server, usually the nearest one may be 100s of km's away - our planet is huge. Despite Microsoft opening 2 data centres in
Australia, I'm still getting average 156-230 ping. I asked my Samsung S5 it has voice commands what is the distance between Auckland and Sydney (Sydney is home to a Microsoft data centre). It replied two thousand and something kilometres. Even a plane trip
from Auckland to Sydney takes 2 hours and so many minutes on an Air New Zealand 777. I think Microsoft should open up a data centre in NZ or have servers here if they don't already. I have Ultra Fast Fibre internet 100 down 10 up and I still lag sometimes
while playing Minecraft on Xbox 360 on friends worlds. Or have connection issues unable to join some worlds sometimes. I would recommend everyone should still have at least 10mb/s download speed, but this isn't always guaranteed with ADSL Broadband (which
averages 7-14mbs down). If your download speed is slower than 5mb/s, you have a problem. Last year I went over our monthly data limit and we were slowed to dial up speed. I joined a friends Minecraft world on 360, and the chunks and world were loading sooooo
slow it was just sad. This also happens if you're on ADSL Broadband and you're say Uploading a video to Youtube. Twisted copper wiring uploading is it's greatest weakness. We have Vodafone NZ Cable Internet and I can upload videos 10x faster and play multiplayer
without it compromising my multiplayer enjoyment.

Geek it took you about a week to download "HALO: MCC".

Unfortunately you're not a normal example.

However thanks for highlighting that I am correct.

Geek went with what he was told and found his Broadband speeds aren't broad at all.

So like I said above, a normal broadband connection is perfect for online play.

If you've been promised a broadband connection by an ISP (Internet Service Provided) but you don't get the service, like in the case of Galactic Geek, then you should be getting them to fix it or refund you.

Otherwise you're paying for something you don't even have.

it was only this year that the FCC redefined the term "broadband" as being 25mbps down and 3mbps up, before that it was only 4mbps down and 1mbps up(in the US of course).

as far as playing online, a 5mbps down 1mbps up is more than enough to play online with voice chat, but that's it, the moment someone else tries to stream a video or something while you're playing online and your connection will become garbage. so you're
fine with 60mbps connection, and i wouldn't put much faith in the latency test, someone had mentioned in another thread that the speed test server is in Seattle WA, my tests shows the latency in the 60-90ms range, but when i connect to Titanfall it is normally
    about 13-16ms.

If you have speeds of 1.5Mb/s down, .5Mb/s up, and a ping under 200ms, you'll be fine! Provided you are the only one using the connection at the time! ;-)

    Peace, J.R.
