Question about needless gamertag

I've got a gamertag which was created from Windows 10 automatically and without any possibility of choice. And I don't want to pay $10 to change it.

So the question is:

1) Can I delete this gamertag?

or

2) Can I disconnect this gamertag from my Microsoft Account?

The main reason and goal: I don't like this gamertag and I will not ever use it. And there are no important data in this gamertag.

The new rule has been stated if an account has been inactive for 5 years the gamertag and account shall be removed off xbox services.There will not be a next mass gamertag release you just got to wait.

Just in case you didn't understand the wait time has started a soon as the notice was released.

If you're going to have an offline account (never go online with it), you won't need a Microsoft account at all. You will be able to use the Microsoft account on another silver account if you chose to.

And I've tried earlier to do something similar but it
demanded from me $10 ($9.99 to be accurate).

My Microsoft Account was created few ears ago.

 

The free Gamertag change on a new Xbox Live account lasts for 30 days. Since you mentioned it's been a few years since that account was created, that would be the cause for the charge popping up. Here's a different

Change Gamertag page to try out. If the free option does not pop up, then the $9.99 charge will be required to change your Gamertag. Gamertags cannot be removed from a Microsoft Account once it has been set.
