Question about Microsoft Accounts and XBox Profiles

Hi all,

I've seen similar issues, but believe mine is a little different since I'm not trying to keep a longstanding account or transfer data.

My son established an MS/XBox account a few years back using his email address (@icloud). He stopped using it, then one day wanted to play something that required an account and completely forgot everything. Now, when I'm not home to play IT, I don't know what sort of shenanigans he and my wife get into, but long story short he ended up with a new MS/XBox account using my wife's email (@yahoo). This is now the account he has been pretty active with and has most of his history.

My question is... can we delete/close his original (@icloud) account, then add it as an alias on the one my wife created? Then set it as the primary and remove her @yahoo address? And do I have to wait the 30/60 days to set it up the alias?

I think this works since my wife's account was created solely for his gaming and she's not trying to retain anything. And then he retains all of his gaming history (except anything from his original account).

I was unclear... He still has access to the Apple side of his @icloud account. At the time of creating the new MS account, he had lost access to the MS account using the @icloud address.

We have since gained access to both MS accounts. Almost all of his play history is on the @yahoo MS account, but it makes sense to have that tied to his @icloud account.

I tried to add the @icloud as an alias, but as expected I received an "already in use" error. Now that I have access I think I can close that account, THEN add it as an alias on the other, right?

If I understand you correctly he has lost access to his @iCloud account and forgotten the account details. If he could recover the account on both Apple and Microsoft's ends, then he can set up the alias without problems.

An Xbox Account is a Microsoft Account, really, so thinking about it that way can lead to some fallacies. You can't delete an Xbox Profile any more than you could have just an Xbox Profile and not a Microsoft Account. The best page you're going to find
is the one on
how to change the email address of your Microsoft Account. Before you follow that process, I'd recommend reading through the entire process and what that might mean for your accounts, as some things like subscriptions won't carry over to another Microsoft
Account if you add that email over as an alias before promoting as the primary email.

You'd want to take the email you want and make it the primary email on the Microsoft Account that has the profile you care to use.
