    Question about hdmi passthrough stereo/surround


    Hello

    Hoping to have someone confirm an issue I am (was?) having.

    I had both hdmi output and optical output enabled to default settings, stereo. I enabled the tv/one guide audio passthrough surround, and restarted the xbox one s. I immediately had issues with my controller disconnecting after about 10s being connected,
    the only way to get it to reconnect was to pull the batteries and turn the controller back on. The connectivity problems continued after restarting the controller, and only was resolved after I reverted the setting.

    I then disabled HDMI audio output, and turned on DTS for optical out, and then re-enabled the tv hdmi passthrough surround, and have not had any issues at all. Can anyone confirm that this is expected behavior? It seems very strange that the byproduct of
    the audio issues caused the controller connectivity issues.

    no surround on x1?

    ok so i know there are issues with this. but i was under the assumption that if i use the hdmi to my surround sound i would get surround. however it REFUSES to go above stereo compressed, for what the xbox is outputting. it REFUSES to....this is absolutely
    retarded. is it because i passthrough the surround box to the tv and since the tv is stereo it can't? sigh.....so frustrating.

    Just noticed I didn't try the "surround effect" setting in the TV App (the one that requires a reboot).

    Trying it now. Not sure why it's not enabled by default as it seems it does not interfere with stereo passthrough (I have a strict stereo setup).

    Audio troubles

    settings: audio: change output to hdmi stereo. if still no sound then double check that your monitor does have speakers as alot of them don't and they just have audio passthrough to a 3.5mm on the back.

    I am having the same issue, I can only get Dolby Surround or Stereo while using Netflix. Prime & Disney play Atmos fine.

    Xbox audio settings are correct and on Atmos w/passthrough. AVR is a Denon AVRX4700H w/7.1.2

    TV Tuner Stereo output only?

    I'm having the same issue. Only seeing a 2 channel, stereo output. I've tried every surround sound option (5.1, 7.1, bit-stream, surround sound on/off, etc...) and I've changed around the HDMI settings with no luck. The output is only stereo for OTA live
    TV. When watching movies or other content surround sound works fine.
