Question about gamertag issue

Hey, im a big kid cudi fan and i would like to change my GT to something involving him or his music. I started by trying just Cudi and of course it was taken. So i went and added the account and it was one of those that has never been online, never played
a game, and has the xbox logo as its gamer picture. I just want to know why people can have these if they aren't being used and would be better off if it actually had use for someone who really wants it. Cudi's music helped me get through the tough time after
losing my father. I just want some insight on this, any answers would be greatly appreciated. I'd understand if it was used once, and they havent been on in years, but why keep something unused if it could be used by someone it has meaning to? Thanks, Jared

Question about Gamertags.

The new rule has been stated if an account has been inactive for 5 years the gamertag and account shall be removed off xbox services.There will not be a next mass gamertag release you just got to wait.

Just in case you didn't understand the wait time has started a soon as the notice was released.

If you're going to have an offline account (never go online with it), you won't need a Microsoft account at all. You will be able to use the Microsoft account on another silver account if you chose to.

The account could have been used for a Zune account. which would not show up as being online. Or it could be tied to a Windows phone account and the person doesn't game.

If the tag is taken so you'll have to come up with another tag. Wish I had more.

 

Is there anyway for someone from Microsoft to tell me if it is? or is it one of those that just sits there not used? if it is a zune or something else ill be 100% fine with that

 

Due to privacy issues/concerns I doubt anyone from Microsoft will comment as to who or how the account is being used. All that can be said is that the tag is taken.

 

The last time unused gamertags were released people snapped them up to sell them so the chances of gamertags being released again are extremly slim.

Like Sara said,tags are used on other services,not just xbox live so if it says the tag is taken then there's nothing you can do.
