Question about digital purchase on Xbox One

Hello.

So, a friend of mine has his profile on my XB1. He just got an XB1 himself. If I buy a game under his profile(I would apply a card I have to his profile). would he be able to download and play that game on his console?

Sorry if I sound like a noob lol but I'm not sure how DRM works with digital purchases.

I'm not worried about selling my games on or trading so all my Xbox One purchases will be digital

 

Since it is his profile he would be able to download and play the game on his console.

However if he sets his One as his Home console then you wont be able to play it on yours.

That's not a problem since I already own the physical game.

 

having a profile on your console is NOT THE SAME as him setting your console as his "HOME" if you use jis profile to purchase the game.. he will get the game himself.. added to what ever console he has listed as his home.. you will get the game on your console...
but once he signs into another console.. it will be gone

 

BTW.. is it the same game you own on disc you are buying?? if so and you trust this kid... swap home consoles under settings.. making his console your home and his your console his home.. buy the game digitally giving a license to both of you making your
disc not needed anymore

 

lol that's one hell of a workaround. I'd imagine this would eventually be patched out but since I already have the physical game, that's not a big deal lol. Thanks.

 

Out of curiosity. What's the point of setting your console as home console.(aside from this workaround that is lol)

If a Gold account has the console set as Home then Silver accounts on the console can use all the Gold features.

 

lets say you are I are brothers and live in the same house and share consoles... When a game is purchased it comes with 2 licenses One for the gamer tag and one for the console... I buy a digital version of COD AW.. I am able to play it under my gamertag
on ANY console I am sitting at as long as i am signed in.... that being said.. the game also mirrors itself to my HOME console and is available to anyone signed in on that console..

See where this is going yet?

I am able to play COD using my name and you are able to play COD using YOUR name on MY console (at the same time) meaning family members need to only purchase a game once and share between the consoles... basically every digital game is 1/2 price..

Now.. pretend we do not live in the same house?? doesnt matter.. still works... no matter where you are...

 

You better hope you two remain good friends, because once you have a falling out, you can kiss that game you bought him goodbye.
