Q: How do you counter shadow attacks?

Yeah Max can be sort of lame but that's just how he is, it's meant to be corny lol. But I'm glad your learning something nonetheless. Also, I'm not too sure about your question because I'm not good at breaking Shadows with a regular combo breaker. Not to
mention the timing has to be right... I usually just wait lol.

2. The shadow breaker command is MP + MK. Don't use the LP+LK or HP+HK
I know that, but it doesn't work unless I block 1st. I'm looking for an answer to countering shadow attacks mid-combo if I didn't block.

Also, I wrote up an extended reply about what I learned from Max's tutorial video & then lost it for some unknown reason when I clicked the post button. *sigh*

I'll type it up again later tonight after I get back home from my class so you guys can get a fairly good idea of how much I really didn't know.

5. Things That I learned from Max's Tutorial Video That I didn't Know:

1)
What individual characters' instinct mode traits are (I knew some, but not all).

2)
Autos are also known as doubles or auto-doubles because they attack twice. I always pressed the buttons twice when it's not even necessary.

3)
Linkers have multiple hits depending on whether you press
light
(1-hit), medium (2-hit), or hold either (3-hit). I remember hearing about holding the 2 buttons down for the
heavy attack, but never fully understood it - I figured I could just press
heavy instead - this turns out not to be the case & is why I dropped a lot of my combos, since those can be used as
enders.

4)
What the individual character combo traits are. I had no idea those even existed - the only clue I had was
Jago's Around the World trait in Dojo Mode, but that's only 1 example & doesn't explain the other characters' traits or the broad concept of
character combo traits.

5)
The colors of the lock-out icon. Red means you chose wrong. Orange means you tried to break at an inappropriate time. I thought the colors had to do with the power of the attack (light,
medium, or heavy) but with only 2 colors that idea didn't make any sense.

6. After thinking about it, this is actually disappointing to me. I hate how a lot of fighting games (KI being no exception) hide a lot of the mechanics by not really explaining how certain things work via their training or practice mode, or in help or how
to play menus. I understand the need to have space for learning & experimenting, but a lot of this seems like things that should be known in the 1st place (such as the instinct mode traits & combo traits mentioned above).

7. I FINALLY figured it out! I went to the
official Killer Instinct forums
over at the
Double Helix website
, where they have a complete tutorial created by
C88 Napalm
on how to play the game (which can be found
here
).
A Shadow Breaker is essentially a Combo Breaker performed during a Shadow Linker. All Shadow Linkers consist of five hits. The speed of these hits varies with each Shadow Linker. In order to perform a Shadow Breaker, you must press
MP+MK during any three of the five hits in a Shadow Linker. The timing can be tricky, but if you're successful with the first attempt, the announcer yells, "One.” If you're successful with the second attempt, the announcer yells, "Two." If you connect with
the third MP+MK attempt, the Shadow Linker will be broken.

Keep in mind, the opponent can hear the announcer just as well as you can. This means that they can be ready to perform a Bluff once they hear "one" or "two" from the announcer. While the timing can be more difficult, if you can hit the first two breaker attempts
during the first two hits of the Shadow Linker, you'll have any of the last three hits in the Shadow Linker to connect the last breaker attempt. This can help prevent a Bluff or bait the offensive player into a Bluff when you have no intention of using a Shadow
Breaker.
I kinda-sorta accidentally stumbled upon this while learning how to play Spinal after he released. Enjoy! Q: How do you counter shadow attacks? ;)

Jago: Around The World

Sabrewulf: The ability to spam auto-doubles, but it has to be the same input. You can have a combo without a linker.

Spinal: He can add a manual at the end of his auto-double if you press the input again. Where it's usually auto-double or manual, he can do both.

Glacius: Full screen auto-doubles!

Thunder: Not sure, but it's more than likely his command grab ender.

Orchid: Double linkers when using QCF (Quarter Circle Forward) + Medium Punch, Ichi Ni San.

Sadira: Air combos

Okay, I'll give that a try; still, that's disappointing to hear. Even if I counter it, I'll still take most of the damage from all but the last hit... =(

Q: How do you counter shadow attacks?

You have to make sure you time it right. I believe making sure you hit MP + MK as the last hit lands. Example, Sadira's Shadow Spin Move I think has 5 hits, so count 1, 2, 3, 4, MP+MK. I'm not too good at explaining but hope that helps.

Q: How do you counter shadow attacks?

Yes you can do a regular combo breaker during a Shadow move but it requires timing.

Q: How do you counter shadow attacks?

My bad, I thought it was common knowledge to block (I watch a lot of Max's videos lol). And no, you can only do a Shadow Counter if your blocking, other than that it's just a regular combo breaker.
