  1. Put Child's Age During Initial Set Up -- Can't Buy New Games!!!

    Hello,

I got an Xbox in April for my kids, it came with Minecraft. It's our only game. I am trying to buy Lego Star Wars for my son, but it says I am not old enough. When I did initial set up I put in his birthday (wanting age-appropriate content only). Turned
out to be a huge mistake that blocks me from being able to buy/unlock things on the Xbox. This has come up in the past when we were trying to figure out how to unlock different skin and texture packs. I spoke to a human at customer support who told me there
was no way to ever undo the age mistake I made during initial set up.

Please help! How can I change the age I submitted during initial set up? I have scoured the settings on the console as well as the website. I see a place for removing users. I'm afraid doing that won't achieve my goal and could cause another problem. I'm
frustrated and feeling hopeless! Any suggestions?

    Thank you!

    :)

Granting exceptions to content limits for a child account

    Hey there RiHolmes.

When you set up your child's account, did you link it to an adult account or was the age of the child account set over the age of 18?

What to do with money on a Child Account

Hello, I've used a pre-paid card to add some money to my child's account but it seems he can't buy any (items) games from the Xbox Live store due to some age restriction. The age he has set on that account is 16 yet he can't buy even the 3+ games. I've checked
all the Family Settings and he does have a permission to buy anything from the Store. Can that money be actually used for something or do we have to wait until he's 18?

    Thank you for your time

Well, first of all, you should NEVER use your own account to let your kids play on the Xbox. As you see, you're locking yourself out of many options, and if you change the age for the account, your kid is regarded as an adult, and can't be restricted.

    You basically have three options:

You take over the account, change the birthdate, so you're adult again, and then create a new account for your kid and add that child account in your adult family account. That way you can manage what your kid can do and see on Xbox.

Or you abandon your account, and create a new adult account, add your old account as a child account to your own adult account in the family settings, and then manage your kid that way.

Or you move your kids Gamertag to a newly created Microsoft Account email with proper age information, then change the birthdate of your own account to make yourself adult, and then manage your kid's child account through the family settings, after adding
your kid to your family settings.

You can change the birthdate and manage the family at

    Skype and my Child's Account

    Hello:

It may be because Xbox's child accounts already assume that she is a minor, and if that is the case, the account is a child account, and if it was set up initially as a child account, it may not be able to "graduate" to adult status until she reaches the
age of majority wherever you live. <The age restriction may be the sole reason you cannot associate a Skype account with her gamertag.>

Change of child account to adult account

If the date of birth on the child account when it was originally set up has reached the age of 18 then you would have to sign in with the parental account at account.microsoft.com/family and remove the child from the family. and that would put the child
into its own family as an adult. if you remove the child from the current family and its date of birth when the account was originally setup has not reached 18 it will not allow the account to be signed in until it is put into a new family as a child.
