Purchasing Subscriptions using Local Currency

Just for information : Microsoft Points or Local currency cannot be used to purchase Xbox Live Gold Subscriptions so don't believe retailers saying that this mode of payment can be used for it. They're actually misleading people to sell prepaid codes. It
has never been an option to pay for a subscription even before MS points turned to Local Currency, thus, this currencies are designed to purchase downloadable games and contents. So, be careful when buying prepaid codes. Be sure that you have the "Xbox Live"
label on it (That means that it's a card or code for subscription). If there is an amount indicated on the card (e.g : $25), that would be Microsoft points/Local currency. I hope this post helps! Cheers everyone!

You do realize you also have the option to purchase a subscription card from a local retailer? You don't have to buy the subscription using your credit card. As has been stated in the Points/Currency FAQ for quite some time: "The currency in your Microsoft
account can’t be used to buy an Xbox Live Gold membership at this time." Since they have transitioned points to currency there is a possibility that subscriptions can begin to be purchased in the future. However, at this time the only subscription you
will be able to use the currency in your Microsoft account to sign up for is an Xbox Music Pass on Xbox One. Ultimately, there is no scam here. You are either purchasing currency or you are purchasing a subscription. There is no middle man you are paying extra
to. The amount for a 12 month card will be the same as a local retailer depending on tax differences.

Hopefully the remaining Microsoft points that people have will be converted to local currency, or else that would be a huge waste. I found an FAQ on this, hopefully the information is true.

Do you have proof of this like a picture ???? Otherwise, it is just your word to go on !!

 

At every retail place I shop at, if they sell MS points/currency, they also sell 12 MO. Xbox Live Gold cards.

 

I imagine every game shop knows you can`t use xbox currency to buy gold time and should not be misleading you.

If you are buying from a different kind of store,like a supermarket, its unlikely they will know.

 

Yeah and to be fair, it can be an easy mistake to make to the untrained eye. In my opinion, if a retailer is willing to sell something like a sub / currency card, they should at least be equipped with the basic information about it to prevent stuff like
this happening. As OWEN says, supermarkets are unlikely to know because they don't specialize in gaming. If it was a gaming store you got it from then I would be surprised as they should know better.
