    I recently received an Xbox gift card so I entered code and it says you have 15 pounds in your Microsoft account , can I use this to buy a football top I have found for my avatar in the Microsoft store , when I tried I just kept asking me to change
    payment type and asking for credit card details ,

    Avatar Companion blocked for child account - Parent can't purchase for a kid? Seriously?

    So, my daughter wants to purchase an avatar item, Baby Groot Companion, for her avatar from the marketplace store. The item is FREE. She's blocked from doing so by MS due to being a child/teen account. Even though I am her parent, and even though I changed the family settings to allow her to purchase content and even though I have billing setup with MS, she still CANNOT purchase the item. I can't purchase it for her. Seriously?!!

    Who in their infinite wisdom decided that FREE content allowed by a parent, can still NOT be purchased by a child? Come to think of it, if this is the case, why is there no way for a parent to purchase content and gift it to a child account?

    You are not able to purchase a gold subscription using funds from your Microsoft account. Gold membership can only be purchased using a credit card/Paypal or by purchasing a prepaid gold card in a retail store.

    When you go to the store on your account there may be an option to buy as a gift. you can then enter the persons gamertag and they will receive a message or email with a code to download the item

    Not all items are giftable if the item in question is not giftable you wont be able to purchase it for another account using your account credit

    The xbox gift card is used to put credit on your Microsoft account to purchase items on the store. The xbox live card is used to buy the live service that allows you to play onlline games.

    No, you will not be able to use your Xbox Gift Card to purchase items from the Microsoft Store online. The Xbox Gift Card can currently only be used to purchase items on the Xbox LIVE marketplace and the Windows Phone store.

    If you wish to purchase an extended warranty, you will need to use a payment method like a credit or debit card.

    I'm not quite sure why it says "select Microsoft Online stores" maybe that's a feature for the future, but at this point in time you're not able to actually use your Microsoft Account balance on Microsoft.com/Store either. I'll bookmark and confirm this tomorrow

    The gift card for the credits may have put money on your account, so you can purchase the credits from the Xbox store. Check your account, and see if money has been put on it. If it has, then use it to purchase from the store.

    I tested out downloading a free prop item via the web browser of the Xbox Avatar store, and it did seem to confirm the "purchase" with my credit card.

    It seems that a registered payment source is required to make purchases on even free items on the Xbox store. A PayPal account or Xbox gift cards are alternative payment sources to use in place if you don't have or don't wish to register a credit card.

    It is free to create a PayPal account, although I am unsure if Microsoft actually checks and requires you need to register a valid credit card in your PayPal account to complete a "free" purchase. Still, I'd give PayPal a try -- create an account for free,
    link it up to your Xbox account, attempt to download a free item, and see what happens.
