Purchasing Free Games/DLC in the store requires a credit card.

This used to not be the case

I do not own a credit card or a debit card so I can't download anything free on the marketplace.

Is this a bug? Or is this the norm now?

TITANFALL FREE DLC requires Credit Card. Glitch

The free Titanfall DLC content requires a credit card, This is a common glitch with free content, please fix. There should be no credit card prompt.

Truth when i was young my mom didn't let me use the credit card unless it was like an amazon order. There was no way in hell she was going to just give me a credit card and say have fun.

Every purchase i had to talk to her, I had to ask her for permission, I had to get the card and use it again.

All i see is another parent being lazy and blaming others for their own fault and lack of understanding. They know a kid can buy stuff because they gave them their card, next time make the purchase for them and require them to ask before they hit the buy button.

I never ever would have hit "purchase" because it was their, i would have waited and asked first. Teach your kids and you won't have to worry about how corporate do things, only that your kids follow the rules.Click to expand... I don't think they "gave" their kid the credit card. The card had probably been stored on the account. So you don't need the credit card information to make a purchase. You simply confirm your purchase. So its not like the kid needed to get the credit card and then enter in the information.

That is extremely disappointing... Looks like I will no longer be able to even get any free games with gold...

Its still free and it's not a bug

Rather then have a different payment system the xbox 360 games which I'm assuming is what you are trying to get which I doubt they will change anyway because 360 are now retired

It still requires a 0.00 transcaction

Meaning a payment even at 0.00 cent it will take a long time before they would be able to rewrite the system to allow free purchases you can however still get xbox one game's with gold that wsy

I tested out downloading a free prop item via the web browser of the Xbox Avatar store, and it did seem to confirm the "purchase" with my credit card.

It seems that a registered payment source is required to make purchases on even free items on the Xbox store. A PayPal account or Xbox gift cards are alternative payment sources to use in place if you don't have or don't wish to register a credit card.

It is free to create a PayPal account, although I am unsure if Microsoft actually checks and requires you need to register a valid credit card in your PayPal account to complete a "free" purchase. Still, I'd give PayPal a try -- create an account for free,
link it up to your Xbox account, attempt to download a free item, and see what happens.

The One store does not see the Microsoft account balance as being a valid payment option for 360 content. So a credit card or Paypal is required to be on file for 360 content, even if it's free, when you make a purchase from the One or website. To make
a purchase without a credit card or Paypal, the purchase would have to be made on a 360.
