Purchasing Backwards Compatible Games Troubleshooting Tips

Are you having trouble purchasing an Xbox 360 backwards compatible game on your Xbox One?

Then you probably looking at the right place for the answer!
Are you receiving a message like this when you try to purchase a backwards compatible game?

"Your account is unable to make this type of purchase on Xbox.com. Please complete this transaction from your Xbox." or "Your purchase cannot be completed at this time. Please try again"

You can receive this message if

• you have a child or teen account,
• you don't have an active payment option attached to your account.
  
• you have other problems

And here are the solutions:

• If you have a child or teen account you won't be able to purchase the backwards compatible games (and free B.C. games) because child and teen accounts are prevented from making purchases in the Xbox 360 Marketplace. (Changing your Microsoft account
  age or your purchase settings won't resolve this issue.) You can only purchase the game from an Xbox 360 console.
  
• If you don't have an active payment option you should add one to your account (even if you try to purchase a free game!) by signing in to your Microsoft account,
  select "Add a payment option", and then follow the instructions. If you don't want to add a payment option, you can download the content using your Xbox 360 console.
  
• If you have an active payment option and you have an adult account you can try to
  • add another payment option, Payments
  • remove and add the payment option again, Payments
  • update your billing information, billing.microsoft.com
  • make sure your physical location is matching with your profile's region and your console's.
    
  • Remove and download your profile to the console again.

  • Povercycle your console Povercycle

Purchasing Backwards Compatible Games

You can buy the games physically or digitally. It doesn't matter. If you do buy them from the One, you have to use a credit card or Paypal to make the purchase. I don't play Team Fortress, but as long as online is still available, there are usually still
people playing it.
