Purchased two already redeemed codes from GameStop.com

I recently purchased two $20 Xbox live codes through a third party online. When I received the codes in my email and tried to redeem them, I was met with a “codes already redeemed” message. I contacted the retailer and was told I would have to contact Microsoft. When I tried to get the codes replac d with Microsoft through the support chat, I was told I needed to contact the retailer to receive new, unused codes. I have never regretted a purchase as much as I do with my Xbox Series S right now. I’m getting the run around by two huge retailers instead of one person taking the time to replace the $40 worth of digital codes. What are my options now? Eat the $40 because no one seems to be able to help me?

Really just replying to say that Nursemorph is correct imo, the retailer you purchased the codes from is ultimately responsible for supplying a good and working code as an agreement was made to that effect as soon as the purchase completed.

If the codes were somehow hacked or similar making your codes invalid, that is simply not your fault. It should be the retailers job to refund or replace and then THEY contact Microsoft to (I assume) check whether the codes were redeemed by a party other than yourself.

I would recommend a forceful email demanding resolution or you will contact trading standards.

Please do not allow this situation to Mar your experience with the Series S as it is an issue with a retailer rather than the console.

Well, if you consider the codes as "faulty goods" (which they are), then it would be Gamestop's obligation to provide you with goods that aren't faulty...and they can, in turn, recoup their money from Microsoft.

This surely covered by your statutory rights (presumably the same as in the UK) and would, in my personal opinion be covered by this:

"If an item you purchased is defective or was damaged, let us know within 30 days and we'll replace it with a similar item."

An unredeemable code should be classed as defective.

However, I'm not a lawyer, so legally things may be different

they were already redeemed.

I am trying to redeem a code I bought from Gamestop.com for this game on Xbox.com and on my Xbox 360. It does not work.

Website says:

Check the instructions that came with your code. You might need to redeem it on a different web page.

Redeem:

Microsoft 365 Family

Microsoft 365 Business Apps

Xbox: Check the instructions you got when you received this code. You might not be eligible to redeem it, or maybe you need to redeem it on another device or service.

On the 360 it just says: This Code isn't valid. Please enter a valid code.
