    Purchased DLC for Grand Theft Auto V, but can't use it


    I purchased a "Whale Shark Card" for GTAV at $49.99. This purchase put large amounts of in-game dollars into my GTA online account (3.5 million). It's a sanctioned purchase I made on January 12 through the Xbox live store.

    Rockstar banned my account on January 15. I know this from a simple "You are banned" message displayed on screen anytime I try to start GTA Online. This sounds cliche, but I haven't done anything to get myself banned. I think this Whale Shark Card tripped
    what Rockstar calls "automated statistical analysis" used to identify cheaters. Their analysis is faulty. Or maybe collateral damage / bans are acceptable.

    I've tried to contact Rockstar many times for an explanation. I have four tickets opened on this. I haven't gotten a human reply yet. I took it to their support forums and didn't catch anyone's attention. It's been a few weeks.

    Their DLC content is obviously flawed if it leads to a ban. How do I get a refund for this $49.99 purchase?

    You cannot get a refund for the purchase. The purchase worked perfectly fine and deposited the funds into your Rockstar account. Legitimate content purchases will not get you banned and "automated statistical analysis" will not see a purchase and ban a
    user because of it.

    You clearly did something to violate GTA:Online's policies and suffered and in-game ban because of it. You will have to wait for Rockstar to respond to you as it's out of Microsoft's hands as it were.

    Yep, clearly I did SOMETHING. (eye roll)

    This kind of double digit IQ thinking is the real problem. Rockstar took a very lengthy 24 hour downtime window to do something. That type of downtime would get people fired in the real world. What's the chances they got everything perfect?

    These are EXTREMELY modest stats, almost nothing compared to some of the billions accumulated by real cheaters. Sorry man, but you're less than zero help. Don't troll especially if you don't know any facts at all.

    As it's an in game problem then Rockstar are the only ones who can deal with it.

    You will just have to keep trying to contact Rockstar.

    Call me crazy but if you earned less than what you have in the bank (especially considering the fact that you spent all but 50k of what you've earned) then that stat can't really be "legitimate."

    Does anyone from Microsoft actually respond here?

    I don't know how to get any attention here on a legitimate problem short of filing a chargeback. I'm just going to do a screen dump and call this my attempt to resolve the charge before talking to the bank.

  10. Refusing to pay (reversing the charges) for a purchased product that was delivered to your account will actually result in your account being suspended for billing violations.

    You received your purchase and used it for 3 business days before you incurred an in-game ban. These bans are performed by the developer/publisher not by Microsoft.

    You violated a game's policies and were banned by the developer after Microsoft delivered the product that you purchased. Microsoft is not to blame for your failure to obey Rockstar's policies.

    Also none of the many people who made the same purchase as you were banned. So go right ahead and reverse the charges and get your account and console banned from Xbox LIVE for Marketplace Fraud and Marketplace Theft.

    Hey Zombie Rhesus, unfortunately this is a developer related issue. MS doesn't have any control over game specific bans. I know you said you already tried contacting Rockstar but they are they only ones that would be able to address the ban. As for a refund
    on the DLC, there are no refunds on Marketplace content sorry.

    A Microsoft rep has called me a cheater three times now. I don't understand how this has turned into a third-party hands off finger pointing game Apple, Android, Amazon and so many others broker purchases AND broker refunds. Xbox live calls it's customers
    cheaters.Pretty upset guys. I going to do my best to make sure this gets into a gaming magazine or blog. You're selling bad goods and blaming the customer

    No one is insulting you and no one has ever used the word "cheater." What has happened is that three different people here have told you the simple truth and that truth is that you incurred an in-game ban for violating Rockstar's in-game policies. You
    violating those policies is an undeniable truth because Rockstar would not have banned your account from their servers for any other reason.

    Microsoft also issues refunds if a product is defective. Your purchase was not defective. As I already said, it was delivered to your in-game account for GTA: Online after which you incurred an in-game ban--issued by Rockstar not Microsoft--approximately
    72 hours later.

    Do as you wish but no reputable media source is going to side with a person who wants a refund because (s)he did something to violate a EULA and was banned because of it.
