Purchased digital download as a gift and it auto downloaded immediately

Thanks for bringing this inquiry to our attention here on the forums. I understand you purchased Call of Duty Black Ops 4 digitally. You do have to make sure you are purchasing a Digital Code or the Digital version because they are separate. That is why
it started installing immediately because the digital version was purchased and applied to the account. Hope this helps

When you purchase digital games the store will automatically try to install the game on the console you made the purchase for. If you do a quick Bing search for "xbox one stop auto downloads" you will find a bunch of links for a solution to stop this from
happening in the future.

If you selected the purchase option instead of gift it would automatically redeem it to your account. You would have to purchase a digital code for the game (if available) in order to receive a code.

Not all games are eligible to buy as a gift. If they are you are given 2 options, 1 to buy and 2 to buy as a gift. The just "buy" option means you're buying it for the account you are signed into. Since you're buying straight from Microsoft it is automatically
added to the account and not sent as a code.

It sounds like what you were expecting was the ability to deliver the gift on a certain date (presumably on 25 December). I understand your frustration, but Microsoft has never indicated that the "buy as gift" feature would enable delivery at a future date.

Personally, I think what you want would actually be a good idea, for Christmas, birthdays, etc. You should upvote/request it at the
Xbox ideas site.
