Purchased an external hard drive that isn't showing up on Xbox 1

I purchased a Silicon Power 256GB ssd to plug into my xbox 1 so games could run faster. When I plugged it in, the ssdwasnt recognized, so I scoured the internet looking for answers. I did everything on the microsoft site such as making it "Instant-On" power
mode, unchecking the "when xbox is off, turn off storage" box, I've reformatted the ssd to NTFS, I've plugged it into every usb port on the xbox, I've hard restarted a dozen times, so not sure what is the issue still.

    Thanks for your help!

    :)

  2. External Hard Drive

So, I recently purchased an external hard drive for my Xbox and moved 1 game just to test. How do I move the game from the external hard drive back to the Xbox so I don’t have to carry the external hard drive with me everywhere I go?

Its usually not recommended that you use a ssd you do realize that ssd deteriotes faster rhen normal drives right? As ssd isnt meant for constant reading and writing

The more you use it the faster the wafers weara out and consoles constantly write

You also need a ready boost compatible drive

Best bet always buy only ready boost compatible devices

  5. Oh man, I hate to do this, but ngocphi has a tendency to reply with inaccurate information, and has terrible grammar.

You do realize that SSD deteriorates faster than normal drives right?

Only partly correct. The NAND Flash used in USB, SD cards and SSDs all have endurance limits meaning one cannot continue to write to them forever. Flash-based products will eventually wear out. However, with features
    like wear-levelling and overprovisioning
an SSD will typically last longer than the system it was installed into.

As SSD isn't meant for constant reading and writing.

As above it will wear out eventually, but the 'wear' comes from writing, not reading. A SSD that was only written to a few times could last 10 years or more. Reading does not cause them to deteriorate.

The more you use it the faster the wafers wear out and consoles constantly write.

SSD's are made up of a PCB with NAND Flash chips, a controller chip and a SATA Interface. The NAND Flash is built up of 'Cells' not 'wafers'

You also need a ready boost compatible drive.

Now you're confusing SSD's with USB Flash drives and SD cards used to boost Windows performance. SSD drives are not sold with 'Ready boost' compatibility requirements, because they don't need to be.

  6. Hi,

Now I've corrected the previous reply - sorry had to be done - now on to your issue.

Does your drive get detected at all by the Xbox One? All Storage devices, whether they are USB Flash drives, USB Hard drives or SSD external hard drives should be at least detected, even if they can only be used to play video, but don't meet the requirements
of Xbox One external game storage.

    Was it
    this one
? If so, how did you connected to the console? If it was with a SATA to USB cable, I'm pretty sure that won't work. It needs to be USB 3.0 external hard drive enclosure.

Can you double check whether it is 250 GB SSD or 256 GB? And, it's 3.0.

Hi! Its 256GB and a 3.0 cable. I had read ither places that it might be an error with the 3.0 cable that came in the original boxing for the enclosure, so i purchased a new 3.0 cable, still no luck. The light to the enclosure definitely comes on when connected
to the xbox, and when i plugged it into my computer it was definitely recognized, just not being recognized in my xbox

Hey thanks so much for your replies!

    so its actually this
    one
, the Ace A55 model, 256Gb model. I have it in an Eaxer enclosure that is then connected via a 3.0 cable. I even purchased a new 3.0 cable thinking the cable that came in the enclosure package might be damaged but still nothing.

my xbox wont even recognize it. When i plug it in, nothing appears, not even to read it as a music/video media device.

When i plug it into my computer, it recognizes it just fine so i know all the parts work, just my xbox is having an issue with it.

  12. Do you have any Flash drives you could plug in and try? Does the console detect these?

Unfortunately i dont Purchased an external hard drive that isn't showing up on Xbox 1 :( but i did read s reddit thread where the a guy suggested to keep unplugging and plugging back in, so i did that and on like the 20th time, the device showed up, but onky after it was unplugged, so i couldnt even click anything on
