Purchased an elite controller and now experiencing drift after 1 month

I went out and purchased a elite controller 1 month ago and am now experiencing strong drift on the left thumbstick. I contacted support and they told me to watch a youtube video and fix it myself, and that they could send me new thumbsticks for 20 dollars.
Me taking the controller apart would of course void the warranty. I don't really know what to do currently, I know the warranty is good and that the controller was expensive.. Is it better for me to just go back to the store and get a refund or something.
Been kind of frustrated after talking to support.

Thumb stick drift on elite controller

I purchased an xbox one elite console in december. I began experiencing drift in the right thumbstick on the elite controller that came with it a few months ago, It's gotten to the point where the controller is almost unuseable for some games. How do I go
about having this repaired/replaced?

 

Is there anything I can do to fix my right thumb stick drift on my Elite controller?

My elite controller is 1 year old and for the last month has developed drift in the right thumb stick. Can this be fixed?

We definitely don't recommend taking your controller apart for repair, as that will void your warranty. Are you possibly able to reach out to the retailer for an exchange? If not, you can set up a replacement for the controller on our
Service Website, as it should still be under warranty.

 

I contacted the supplier who said that it was currently under warranty and to contact Microsoft support. Alas after doing so I came to find that was a lie. But the person I chatted with from the support team told me to call and give them details about the
controller and that they could set up a warranty to cover it. I have been busy so I'm calling tomorrow to see what can be done. Hopefully everything works out because this is one expensive paperweight.
