Purchased 4k movie shows up as HD in description.

Sorry about that but what movies ? Cause 4K is not yet available for all the store...

You have to get the option UHD in the description and be sure to select that one NOT HD or SD ( by the way 14.99 per movie should be the HD one… UHD its in average 24.99 or 29.99 per movie… ).

So double check your purchase history > https://account.microsoft.com/billing/orders ( display all dates and contents ) , you should see what you purchase exactly
( HD / UHD or SD ).

If it was the UHD edition, call Xbox helpdesk to check your Xbox one with an agent > https://support.xbox.com/contact-us

If it was the HD, you probably made a little error during the order...

No, it doesn't do that. The movie will show in 1080p. Only 4K movies will show in 4K.

most likely the game is not full 4k and is some sort of upscaled image. so wont show the badge. they cant advertise a game being 4K ultra hd if it is not and uses tricks to get there, besides that label could be there a for movies and it just shows under
games too. or as the store is going to be used on the Series X where some games will be actual 4K.

Xbox One does not support 4K movies or games.

Xbox One S, supports 4K movies.

Xbox One X
supports 4K games and movies.

If you have 4K TV I recommend Xbox One X. If you have only Full HD TV, so Xbox One X can switch to Full HD mode. All the more power it can put into games.

There are over 130 games that are for the Xbox One X.

I recently upgraded from the S to the X, and I personally feel that speed and graphics are better. As others have mentioned the X plays 4K content and displays in native 4K resolution. Where as, the S can display up to 1440p resolution for games and 4k resolution
for Movie/Video Content (IE 4K UHD Blu-ray disc, content on the Netflix app, etc).

TLDR:

If you wanna play games and watch movies/shows in 4K you'll want the X.

Otherwise I would say the S if you just wanna watch 4K movies or shows.
