purchase not credited to my game

From the FAQ for that offer:

—When will I receive my Rewards Credits?

Your 15,000 Rewards Credits will appear as pending within 15 days of the purchased-game's shipping date.

Since that game was only released recently, it is too early to see pending Credits for that purchase.

The refund in the form of Microsoft credit is only made if the purchase of the game had also been made with the credit.

When I purchased the game through microsoft.com, i was never give the option of checking out, or viewing my cart. The purchase happened in a modal window without an option to enter a promo code. Is it still possible to use my gift code on the purchase and
have my credit card credited for the amount charged?

Here is my experience.

I have the same problem of not able to use the microsoft credit to purchase a game that cost less than my total available microsoft credit using the xbox console. However, when I bought another game that cost more than the microsoft credit I have using
my paypal account, the console then prompt me whether I would like to offset the purchase with my microsoft credit. I answer yes and I finally managed to use up all the microsoft credit.

Why is this a thing? It clearly states I have "Microsoft credit"

It is a bit ridiculous that I can't use this credit to purchase a game for my Microsoft console.
