Purchase DLC with two forms of payment?

I am looking at purchasing some DLC for a game. I may be able to purchase a Microsoft Windows Store gift card at a discounted/special price. So I would buy the gift card at the discounted price, apply the credit to my account, buy the DLC pack and pay
the difference with my credit card. This way I save some money.

So here's my example. If a DLC pack costs $50 and I buy a gift card for $50 (but it's on sale for $40), can I use the gift card to purchase the DLC and pay the taxes with my credit card? I would assume you could, but I have read some reviews were they
had problems with this scenario.

Anyone experience this themselves? If so, please let me know what you encountered. Thanks in advance!

Install Deluxe Edition but Play using Standard Disc

You usually find that all the extra DLC content that comes with deluxe/GOTY editions is in the form of codes which can only be used once, therefore you would still need two copies.

Can't purchase ANYTHING. Wasted money on a gift card and can't use it.

Now I've learned the nasty truth about our problem.

You can only purchase certain content with M$ points. My son bought a DLC code at GameStop for a Destiny DLC.

After 2 hours in MicroSucks chat i've learned two things:

1) The DLC code translated into MicroSoft "points" which can only be used for certain content

2) MS customer service sucks and they are perfectly happy ripping off 13 year old kids

The XBOX gift card will not cost less what card says it be. Because it used real money and not points. But the dlc can go for sale for $40 dollars. And with taxs. That one card can cover it. But you really talking a $50 card on sale. As I said. They have
no more sales sinces they converted to real money. But as for the question to split payment. Yes you can. But you must paid with MSA first. Then the credit card.

Thanks Darkplayer 2. I am looking to buy the Xbox gift card from an online vendor, like NewEgg, Amazon, etc... Which they occasionally have promo codes that will discount the Xbox gift card by 20%. So the $50 gift card would only cost me $40 after the
promo code.

This is good to know, b/c one review I read somewhere said the $50 card does not cover the everything and they could not split the transaction to cover the tax.

The money on your account in the form of local currency is only for DLC, Games on Demand and such. In order to purchase a subscription you would need either a valid method of payment (Paypal or a credit/debit card) or a 25-digit pre-paid code.

Smwutches 1s 100% correct the ONLY way to buy Live is with a Live prepay card or using a form of electronic payment like credit card or paypal. MS points are ONLY for purchases in the market place (games, videos, add on content/DLC for games etc).

Not all content can be purchased using the split payment option. So it's possible that content does not allow that form of payment.
