PSU XB1

Hey guys just curious if anyone else's power brick sounds like a old hair drier, mine started making a buzzing sound today as soon as I turned the console on (XB1). vents are not blocked and It hasn't auto shutdown or anything but it doesn't sound good.

That's nutso the XB1 deleting everything. Sucks. But PSU - Power Supply Unit ... doubt that's responsible

I'm on my 3rd PSU (my store was good enough to swap them, twice). They've all been noisy. They drive me MAD when the room is quiet. At night I even have to turn up the TV volume more than I prefer to drown out the PSU whirring/buzzing drone. ArrgrrrGrrrr!

It is KILLING the whole Xbox experience...so much so I'm considering taking it back and getting a PS4. What's the point in buying the XB1 for the Kinect and Instant On when you can't use it because it's competing with your fridge to see who's the noisiest?

I've tried EVERYTHING ... including trying the XB1 in another house completely, just in case my house was wired funny. It's not. The PSU and its dodgy fan is just a cheap piece of junk.

SO FRUSTRATED AND ANNOYED!!

I'd love my XB1 if the PSU was as quiet as the console. Even nearly as quiet as the console. Instead I'll be recommending everyone get a PS4 instead and forget about the whole Kinect Instant One PSU failure.

I wish there was a cure. Do quiet PSUs actually exist? Or is it a urban myth?

the issue you've described is certainly not normal and would appear to be indicative of some kind of PSU failure. But before we jump the gun here, try disconnecting the PSU from your wall outlet and console, and leave it disconnected for about 30 mins-1
hour.

Then reconnect it and see if the noise persists. If so, I would think the PSU needs to be replaced and shouldn't be used again (to be on the safe side).

Additionally, you can request a replacement PSU yourself. Here's how:

Sign in to the
Xbox Online Service Center with your Microsoft account credentials.

Click Problem with a device from the Home screen. If you’re already at the Device Manager page, click Request Service.

Follow the on-screen prompts to complete your service order request.

After the Xbox Online Service Centre receives your submission, the service centre will send you a service order number and an order confirmation email.

If after 24 hours you haven't received a confirmation email, check your email program's junk folder or spam filter. If you don't find the email in junk or spam, contact Xbox Support.
