Kinect Etiquette

I'm going to keep this short and simple. The Kinect mic quality is NOT that great. Just use a headset!

If you choose to use a Kinect for communicating consider the following:

1. Am I playing in a quite space?
2. Have I calibrated my Kinect with the volume level I will be using to play?
   
3. Is there any excessive noise near the Kinect or the room that might activate the mic when I am not speaking?
   
4. Is my voice coming though clear?

You can even ask players in the game if there is any issues with your Kinect mic.

Things to avoid while using a Kinect for a mic:

1. Playing Music! (No one wants to hear your new Kanye West CD, Pandora Playlist or any other media)
   
2. Excessive background noise. (Vacuum cleaners, Lawn Mowers, Fans, Kids, Background conversations, Washing Dishes etc.)
   
3. Surround sound system/TV Volume. (Don't blast your game sound. We already have our game volume, we don't need to hear yours too)

No no no. Just mute and get on with your day. Don't tell other people what to do it is rude.

 

I can understand wanting to promote good etiquette but the fact is when you play an open multiplayer game you're basically in a public space. People can do whatever they like.

Some people complain when others are playing without mics... heh.
