The beta is now available for all Gold members.

 

Just download it, may as well give it ago, i suck at gears mp but will pick the game up for the campaign, anything extra is a bonus for me.

 

The great thing there is a mode where you team up with others to play against the AI so if you don't feel like getting sweaty you can just casually play against the bots which is what I did for pretty much all my matches.

You also get into matches much faster and still earn XP so you can earn your beta rewards solely from that mode.

 

R1ch5ster, whether or not you "suck at gear mp" do not let this beta turn you off. It needs work so you are going to have issues. You may well dominate as well. Seems that the worse your connection the better. My son can do amazing because the connection
he plays on is fairly slow. But mine is fast. I have others sponging bullets a lot more and he sponges a ton on players when he plays. If he plays on my connection he is much worse.

Also, for everybody out there this is a beta. Try not to take it so serious.

 

I'll give it a go tonight. It's so hard to pull myself away from The Following expansion for Dying Light.

 

Gears of War certainly does bring out the "serious" in people!

 

I've only played a couple of matches of mp so far.

On a couple of occasions my weapon has completely failed to fire leaving me a sitting duck, but that's why it's only beta stage and needs testing.

OK so I see the team deathmatch mode (which is all I have played so far) and the other mode to play against bots with 'hardcore AI'. Can you play against bots on your own somehow like in GOW3 (i.e. me plus 4 other bots on my team against 5 bots on opposing
team)? Can the difficulty of the bots be adjusted, or is it only 'hardcore AI'?

 

^Not in the beta, but I should imagine all that will be in the full game if they include the private lobby option.

 

OK thanks, at least I can stop searching for it now lol! I assume you can still play as a team against 'hardcore AI' bots in the beta, as there appears to be an option for this? If so how hardcore is hardcore, if you know what I mean? I'd like to think I'm
above average in GOW, so can this mode be done with a human team without too much communication, because I don't always like to play with a headset. I'll probably give it a go tonight either way.

 

Yep you can team up. And yep I've been playing with randoms with no communication and it's not hard, occasionally a bot pulls something sneaky, but nothing major.

 

I played a few matches today. I like it. Other people are way better than me though. I haven't play Gears MP since the first game. First match I was 1 kill and 13 deaths. Second I was 3 kills and 9 deaths. 3rd match I was 6 kills and 6 deaths. I turned it
off after that.

What is dodgeball mode?

 

It's team deathmatch, you got one life but when you (or team mates kills an enemy,an allie respawn (and vice versa)

Cool,game mode.

Yeah, I hope it gets fixed. It is really random for me.

Another thing that need fixed, and I am sure this is why they are testing, is to make the game level for different connections. At least I hope it is that. I get in matches where a player is invincible or close to it. Can eat a ton of bullets from anything.
Then there is also some glitches that are typical Gears. A friend of mine was showing me one. Pretty much breaks the game really and allowed him to totally dominate. And he is not very good and he will admit it.

What is odd is the game will play fine. Until you hit a player in the lobby that has that all important spongebob body. Then I get tons of issues, but only with that player, and it totally throws off the match. Player dominates the whole round. 12-0,
14-0 and you can boom shot, grenade, multiple gnasher up close with teammate help, and the player just runs around like it is nothing. Sliding around like they are going to the wall but never hitting the wall either. Getting around these players can cause
framerate issues for myself and some friends who have played. Then they seem to go back to normal. You get close, like that side is out of re-spawns and your side still have 6 or 8 and the player becomes invincible. Taking boom shots and stuff again, doing
odd movements when shot, and generally surviving and wiping everyone out. Have seen this a number of times.

Overall, I generally can do pretty well. But it is hard to do well consistently with these things happening.

I really love Gears. I have a ton of collectibles, have and read the books, and even pre-ordered both collector's editions. But if they do not announce horde mode I will probably cancel and wait. Most games, even with testing, have launched with problems
that linger well into the month+ range and sometimes longer. With the way Gears is that would put a huge dent in the games population of players and that would ruin the game for myself. Hate being stuck constantly hitting matches with players who for whatever
reason can sponge up the shots and generally have an advantage. And I am worried this Gears may just turn out that way. Almost feels like, even with the ground up build they said they did, that this game is heavily reliant on past Gears code.

Oh much serious at that. I would go into it here, pretty funny and typical of some other Gears players I have ran into in the past, but that is another topics post.
