    Protection Against Instigator Reporting


    I play For Honor and I tend not to message people I play against. I have broken this rule a time or two because I was curious if the game dropped and so I asked them.

    Today I had someone message me because I threw them off a ledge in a 4v4 Elimination game. I didn't use any F words, but I did call them a "salty little b****" after they continued to harass me. I had even pointed out to them that I was struggling against
    them on a new hero, and so I was going for my only possible victory against them. L

    They kept insisting that I had lost, and called me a "try hard." I felt that for these reasons I was justified in defending myself using moderately strong language.

    Apparently offensive internet slurs aren't appropriately viewed as provocation because I am now enjoying a 24 hour communication ban- because someone came and picked a fight with me and I didn't ignore them and walk away.

    How can I be reported for behavior that was provoked!? Threatening my gamertag, all of the time/money I have paid to Xbox live and my games on my account, just because you didn't like the way I played a game? If you kill me 3/4 times and I threw you off
    a ledge once, you have no reason to feel bad, no reason to send provoking messages, and no right to complain to Microsoft when I argue back at you.

    I will be very careful with my language, but the fact that I got a ban by being provoked is ridiculous to me. Thanks Microsoft.

    Anyone else think this is wrong?

    be sure to report the message and it will be looked into. but apart from that theres nothing we can do from the forums. please suggest to your son to not be instigated into using potty mouth as it will end up in a ban if reported, the code of conduct/community
    standards are there to protect everyone and will be acted on if being broken.

    What's the deal with your xbox live ban system?

    Enforcement only looks at, and acts on, the single reported message. They don't look at who instigated what.

    This is why we repeatedly advise to report and block, never respond.

    this is already done (reported and blocked) but discussed in order to possibly evolve protection against these practices is not prohibited.

    Then finally I'm no qualms mentioned a cheat as an example who pollutes the live and uses illegal practices.

    Never threaten to report anyone, always just do it if there is something worth reporting. By threatening and not actually doing it, it instigates trouble that could end up coming back on you in the form of communication suspensions and a myriad of other
    negative things.

    Also, outing someone/someone's information regardless of circumstance or situation like this isn't cool. That goes against what the Xbox Community Standard entail. Please review those https://www.xbox.com/en-US/Legal/Community-Standards

    Remember, report and block... never talk back or start fights. It causes more trouble than its worth.
