Pros & cons of downloadable games

The pros....1 You don't have to get off your couch to buy games

2. You don't have to get off your couch to switch between games.

The cons... 1 Downloadable games are more expensive to buy than the physical game.

2 You can't resell off your old games you no longer play.

3 When Live has its frequent issues your downloaded games are unavailable to play.

4 Downloading large games may put you over your data cap and you may have to download the game more than once.

5 You may need to purchase an external storage device to keep the games available to use adding to your costs.

Feel free to add to this list, I've probably missed some of the Cons but as far as I can see not having to move off your couch is the only Pro

:)

OPTIONS, not a rant, just an observation.

I love how Microsoft is the only company that can't design & package THEIR product how they see fit. Numerous products are made where we have zero say in options. You either like it & buy it, the pros for you outweigh the cons & you buy it, or you don't
like it & don't buy it, or the cons outweigh the pros & you don't buy it.

3. Digital Vs. Physical

Disc = 1 set of pros vs cons

Digital = Another set of pros vs cons

Which do you prefer = people bickering over petty differences in their preferences.

affects some people, not me as unlimited

5 You may need to purchase an external storage device to keep the games available to use adding to your costs. -
same with disc based games then as they all install fully.

6. with digital games you purchase the licence to use said game, after 3 years( or whichever they decide) they can make the game unavailable to download, has been this way since the beginning on most platforms for digital content
and not alot of people know this (most companies keep them available though as to keep the people paying for more.

Other benefits of digital downloads is , you won't lose them or scratch them plus you save wear and tear on your disc drive.

Lose them or scratch them? That doesn't apply to me I don't have 12 year old's using my games. I've been gaming for over 35 years and I've never lost one or had any of them scratched. Wear and tear on your disc drive? I still have my original xbox console
and I bought the 360 the first week it came out and they still works fine. I'm thinking you're reckless with games and consoles I look after my stuff. It's different I guess when mommy and daddy buy everything for you and will replace things you break.

Well lucky you. I have kids that use mine. Disc drives fail on these consoles all the time. Consider yourself lucky. I hear of people in ambassador chat with a failed disc drive nearly everyday.

I'm stating other things that happen. I'm 41 and take very good care of my things. I don't scratch them and my disc drive never broke. Before you start making assumptions you should realize that not everyone else is careful like us.

Pros & cons of downloadable games

Only time I get up off my couch to get a physical copy of a game is when it comes through the letterbox.

Don't get off my couch to buy one, just buy them online.

I can manage the 20 feet or so from my couch to my front door.

I also get digital games way cheaper. Gamestop want €74.99 per new release. Cdkeys.com have digital codes for less than half.

I used to only be a brick and mortar guy myself and hated digital. May 2015 I've gone all digital and I like it more. Changing discs seems so old and outdated now.

I've been gaming since I was 4 so that's 37 years now. Digital games are better than using a disc or a cartridge. I don't need the 2 dollars Gamestop will give me for my trade-ins. I have better things to do than waste my time going there.

If you use Gamestop and trade in games, you are doing it wrong.

Gamestop? There's no such animal where I live, We has a site called kijiji where we can sell anything and this is where I sell of my used games. Depending on how new the games are and how many of that title are being sold you can get a good return on your
original costs. You already pay double for new games than I do, where you pay 74 pounds I pay 74 Canadian at todays exchange that = 43.4 pounds. The last game I sold was the COD Black ops 3 I sold it about a month after its release and I received 50 Canadian.
That's far more than the $2 you get at Gamestop. I'd rather toss my game in the ocean than allow a rip off store to take advantage me like that. I just checked out Cdkeys.com and although some of the older titles are cheap the newer ones cost the same price
if not more than Amazons, Walmart or Bestbuy. for instance Cdkeys.com has Forza2 on for $60.18 I bought it from the Microsoft store for $29.00 and Cdkeys.com has Borderlands on for $72.07 I payed $59 at Walmart. You may get games cheaper digitally because
your physical copies cost you so much and you get ripped off re-selling your used titles. I was really referring to the MS store digital copies. 1 example is Forza 6 it's over 1 year old and they still want $74 and its not available on Cdkeys.com.

^^ Digital prices are pretty expensive on the MS store. Cdkeys will have really short sales that you need to be alerted to. I usually have alerts sent to my phone. They had MGS IV on sale for €20.00 for 2 days only a week after it was released. I got AC
Unity for €9.00. I got The Witcher 3 on pre-order for €50.00 instead of €69.99 on the MS store or €74.99 at the shop. Games are super expensive here in the store, but unless I fell like paying for them and having them shipped from England, then I need to buy
digitally.

I've never paid more than £50 GBP for any game digital or disc. no point bringing in exchange rates.

lol I'm lazy and this is by far a challenge. I cringe at the 3 feet from my bed to my TV.

On Topic though, I'm not really seeing any benefit of Physical Media for myself. Buy Online (Physical oxymoron in itself) and wait for shipping or buy brick and mortar and arrive at midnight in the cold with people you don't want to be around. It takes up space,
it gets lost (not talking days or months but decades), its a pointless remnant of past Media Content Delivery and many more negative traits.

I have Unlimited Internet so no issue with that and I don't barter a Consumer Grade Product away as if it has monetary worth. For me the single most important aspect of Gaming is the experience itself. Not the trinkets of antiquity that come with it. Digital
Media does this just fine with delivering the Content and I can enjoy the experience itself without the negatives of above.

Please explain: Purchase Physical Game vs Download from Marketplace.
Download

- Con: eats up massive storage space.
Actually, that's neither a pro or a con, because all games on the X1 (disc or download) have a compulsory install, so the storage is going to be used either way.
