Proper Install Location for GamePass games.

Please open File explorer > Open drive C. Make sure to show hidden files. Find (.gamingroot) file then copy & paste that to your preferred drive. Once done, manually create a new folder named XboxGames on your preferred drive. Restart PC then try to set it again.

1. Open Windows Update and look for updates, update everything, including optional updates. Restart to apply updates and try again.

2. Press Windows Key + i and go to apps, search for ''gaming services'' click ''advanced options'' and then ''terminate, repair and reset. Try installing the game again.

3. Launch PowerShell as an administrator and enter

“get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers”

Restart your PC, open PowerShell as admin again, and enter

“start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN”

The Microsoft Store will open and ask to install Gaming Services, install. Then try installing any game again.

Did you even bother to read my issue?

The issue is that the game will not install in the proper location.

This guide is for when games have issues after installing them.

I didn't install the game as I can't install it in the desired location.

So to reply to your guide:

Did you reboot?

Yes, of course. Step 1 in case of issues. Still can't install in the proper location.

Did you uninstall and try again?

No, as I didn't install in the first place. But I did uninstall the Xbox app and reinstalled it. Still not able to install in the proper location.

I even doublechecked if the drive I'm using is working properly. Just installed a game from the Epic store.

Went straight to the D: drive, no problem.

And as the rest is about solving issues linked to the poor EA play integration, I can indeed confirm this is a customer experience nightmare. It looks and feels like something that you would expect from an indie company in 2004. But as it is actually made by 2 of the richest software developers in 2021, it shows how much they care about their clients.

So back to my initial question:

unlike most other launchers the gamepass games are in an encrypted folder and this needs clearing, then the long task of downloading everything again. Microsoft have not added the locate and verify files ability as the folders are encrypted to that one windows install.

No, it's an in game issue. The scroll can only be opened at a specific location, at the proper point during the questline.
