Prompt asks “Which one do you want to use?” for save data. Does the unused Save Data get ...

To be clear I have an external HDD. You can transfer DLC and installed game data between the external and internal drives but your save game data itself is NOT something you can copy or move (at least not in Shadow of Mordor or Watch Dogs).

I've been searching for a way to make a backup save of the game data. So far this is the only thing that might do it. I would have to play offline but the moment I sign back on I would get this prompt:

"Message: “Which one do you want to use?”

You get this message when your console has newer or different locally saved data than what’s saved in the cloud, usually after you play offline. You’ll be given the choice of which saved data to use, the locally saved or cloud saved version (and you’ll be notified
which is newer). Pick the “save” you want to use and continue."

I obviously don't want to delete my old save data since I want to keep it. I have a Shadow of Mordor file with a lot of items and skills unlocked at the very start of the game and I want to back it up so I can use it to replay anytime I want to. The cloud
and local save system automatically saves over the data anytime you acquire something or do a mission so there's no way to make a backup normally.

    :)

I hate having to ask a n00b question, but...

Using Cloud Game Saves | Xbox One

How do I delete saves I don’t want?
You can manage your data for individual games through My games & apps on your Home screen. Here's how:

    1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide, and then select My games and apps.
    2. Highlight the game, press the Menu button on your controller, and then select Manage game.
    3. In the menu on the left of the screen, scroll down to Saved Data, then highlight the saved data for your gamertag on the right and press the A button on your controller.
    4. You'll be prompted to confirm deletion of this game save data:
      • Delete from console removes the local copy of this save. You can get it from the cloud the next time you play.
      • Delete everywhere removes your saved data from this console, the cloud, and all other consoles you play on.
      • Cancel leaves your data intact.

Hi there, it does sound a bit weird because all save data is backed up to the cloud automatically, when looking through 'My games and Apps' select one of the games with the issue, can you still see your save data there?

If you can, try deleting the save data there and restarting the game, make sure to select 'yes' when it asks if you want to sync data as they will retrieve your saves from the cloud.

I also thought I might mention giving the console a quick physical power cycle, if you haven't already:

    Hello,

Scenario A: You^ve played SoM for 3 hours online, after that you^ve Play 2 hours offline...

when you get back online it askes you if you want to Keep your "offline" Game Savings. If you press Save you will be have your game savings from offline synchronized to the Cloud.. (Keep the 5 hours)

Now if you are at a friends place with your Account, you can Play straight ahead from your "5 hours mark"

If you press No, you^ll Need to Play from the 3 hours mark again and the "offline-saving" is lost... ( It synchronizes your cloud to the xbox) (Keep 3 hours lost 2hours)

(The whole Gamesaving will be synchronized..)

YES, the unused File will be deleted!

In some Games you^ve the Option to set manually checkpoints (like GTA). as Long you don^t overwright this "Slot in Game" you^ll have still your Checkpoint..

Is it safe to play a game offline if you're on single player mode?

    Hey G'

Thank you for taking the time to post this on the Xbox Forums. We understand that you are inquiring about using save data offline.

    While you can
    use your console offline
, your save data will be saved locally on your storage device, but you will be unable to manipulate it.

The next time that your console goes online and you launch this game, you will be prompted if you want to use you the save data on your console [which if you do use this, it will overwrite any Cloud save data] or if you want to use what is currently stored
    in you
    Cloud storage
. Keep in mind using your Cloud Storage data, this will overwrite any save data on your console as well.

I would encourage you to review the information in the links provided and clarify anything that I was unable to clarify for you.

I hope this was of some use to you.

Is there any way to delete save files from the cloud anymore?

Thank you for taking the time to post this on the Xbox Forums. We understand that you are currently experiencing difficulties with being able to delete your save data from the Cloud storage.

As stated by Xbox Forums Ambassador Daft Badger, once you select the save data that you want delete, you are prompted with two choices, one
of which will permanently delete your save data.

This is also depicted in the
Xbox One cloud game saves FAQ
    .

Additionally, there are certain games that save data to remote in-game servers, which might explain why you are unable to delete save data of a certain title.

It should be possible to re-sync your save data by launching the game once more and then closing the game properly, to completely delete your save data by selecting the option Delete everywhere.

Give this a try and let us know if this works for you!

Is there a way to back up a xbox one save game file NOT on cloud?

You'll get a message that says 'Which one you want to use' you get this message when your console has newer or different locally saved data than what’s saved in the cloud, usually after you play offline. You’ll be given the choice of which saved data to
use, the locally saved or the cloud saved version (and you’ll be notified which is newer). Pick the “save” you want to use and continue.

So you can, play online for starting the save but you can play, offline and as soon as you re-connect, to the internet and launch the game you'll see the message while it syncs.
