Promoting a local account to live account for a child

So I’m finally getting my kids online but I’m running into an issue. I need to know how to take a local profile for a child, and covert it to a LIVE account. here’s the problem:

- I’ve created the microsoft account for my daughter

- i’ve linked it to my account and don’t the 50¢ charge

- i’ve confirmed the permission on the microsoft account side (i.e., not the xbox live side yet)

- when I then follow the steps to “join xbox live” from the console, I’m told that I have to create the account online if it’s for a child. The issue is that if you create the account from the website (and not from the console), you are assigned a new gamer
tag which is NOT linked to the local account I was trying to turn into a live account.

this means all the save games are still only local and “owned” by the old account. I know this because it happened with my son’s account. luckily, he’s younger and had barely anything saved to his local account but my daughter has a bunch of stuff and losing
it is not an option.

Promoting a child account

I have a problem with my account. I'm unable to login since I cannot agree to the new ToS because it requires verification from my parent account. I don't remember any of the details for the parent account and can't thus remove the link between the accounts
or promote the child account.

I have been in contact with the Windows Live team and according to them, the account isn't showing up as a child account on their side. I'm having problems logging into Games for Windows- titles for example. I don't own an Xbox which would make this procedure
way easier since its not possible to do the promoting from the Xbox account management page.

Help with this issue would be much appreciated. Thank you.

May I suggest you visit a friendly neighborhood gaming shoppe and download your profile to their Xbox? Then try tochange the password, and the Parental will be shown to you.

1) Take that to
account.live.com/.../reset for the password reset

2) If you can't reset it, go to
http://account.live.com/acsr SAVE THE EMAILS SENT TO YOU

3) If that fails, contact Support and provide them with the Console ID number from Settings | System | Console Settings | System Info (it's on the 2nd line) and the reference number from the email sent to you in Step 2, and submit a UE Request. It is faster
to have the Agent call you by going to
support.xbox.com/contact-us or you can look up the phone number from the 1st web link in the .sig shown below.

 

Your doing it right

You get a GamerTag from Microsoft automatically trough both ways when joining Xbox live

You can change your GamerTag for the first time for free after that you have to pay 10.00$ in the US currency to change it

 

I know that it'll get a gamer tag for her from the website, the problem is that it's not linked to the account she already has so if she wants to use it, she has to start all her games over from the beginning.

 

1. Did she use to have live on that account

2. If she did renew the live

3. Go to to settings>Family Settings and from there you can fix the things she can do on her account like what she watches whats she plays you can also set a pass code on it to where she can't edit it bit I believe u need to enter it every time she signs

If she didn't have live you can sign in on the account u want live and if your connected to Internet there should be an option that says Join Xbox live n do #3 above
