Promoting a Child Account to an Adult Account

Hi, I'm trying to manually promote my child account into an adult account but the solution listed here: Xbox One : Family is
not working for me. I changed my date of birth in the personal info section on Microsoft.com so that it would be considered an adult, but it's still treated like a child's account. For example, whenever I try to change my privacy settings, it tells me to change
them with an adult account. Is there anything I can do to promote my account to an adult? Thanks!

I've encountered a glitch

Promoting a child account to an adult account needs to be done from the console, not the website.

If you are an adult but your account is categorized as a child account and you live within the US you should follow the instructions to provide a US credit card as age verification:

Metal, I think ngocphi is right unfortunately. I set my birthdate to be that I was born in 1991 like it says in the link, but my account still can't do things like buy games right off of xbox.com. I don't remember if it asked me for a credit card as verification
when I changed it because I did it a while ago. I think all I can do is wait until 18 like ngocphi said. It is extremely annoying that I can't do certain things on my account that should be standard features. Thanks for the help from both of you though!

 

Not to get in the middle of this. But I have been trying for over a year to change my sons account from child to adult. He is almost 19 now. I have been on the phone with support for more hours than I can count. Today I believe a light switch just came on
with you two bickering about the answer and I looked it up and read it very carefully. And I believe M3tal is the winner. The questions should be to ngocphi "Do you have a credit card in YOUR name NOT YOUR PARENTS NAME on your account" That is how xbox verifies
your age and that you truly are over 18. And unfortunately you as a minor cannot get a credit card unless you are 18 so to remove the restriction you have to prove that you are really 18 or over and having you to give a credit card in your name is really the
only way to do it. Do you really think xbox is just going to take your word for it that you accidentally put in your wrong birthdate? That's ok though, it took me over a year to figure it out and I have a Masters degree.
