Project Cars gets 'Start Your Engines' trailer

Until a track racing games MP has penalties for demolition derby style tactics most will stick to career modes for some sort of fair racing no matter what platform.

There is a sim for the PC called iRacing that has developed a license system for MP that works about as well as any system will ever work other than having "officials" watch every race. So the ability to do it is there it's just a matter of implementing
it. The iRacing system works...you drive clean, avoid incidents and you advance license status. Drive like an idiot and you stay a bottom dweller.

I agree that's the next step the consoles need to take. They need to hold people accountable for being idiots and prevent them from impacting our experience. Even allowing us to form our own leagues/series in-game would go along ways towards making the experience
more enjoyable and remove the knuckleheads.

 

Out of all the MP racing I have played on X1 lately GTA V racing actually seems the most popular. Getting full 30 player lobbies of racers on there but it is no holes barred every man for himself type racing haha.

 

@rand for once I agree with you.

It's why I prefer Horizon 2 online racing over F5 online racing. It's more forgiving if people take you out as most modes still allow points/progression even from the back of the pack or the chances of catching back up to the pack are better.

 

Wooowee this does look good..After rocking through Forza 5(and still more to go) i'll need another fix until Forza 6 gets here

 

When playing racers online I mainly stick to playing with friends, sure accidents do happen but at least you know you haven't got the idiots trying to ram you off on purpose.

I don't mind playing online with randoms on Forza 5 in the no collision lobbies, sure it does take some of the racing aspect out of it but at the same time you still get some good races and it's all about the fastest times.

I enjoyed playing this at EGX last year, but i've heard the PC crowd have hammered the beta so far

It does seem a lot of PC gamers don't have many good things to say about this at the moment. I think the problem is that the developers have made it more accessible to console gamers, meaning less of a sim I guess and this isn't going down well with a lot
of players.

Personally I still think it's going to be good, if not then roll on Forza 6, Turn 10 haven't let me down so far

As I said in my previous post I was in the PC beta and the vast majority of the complaints were from people that didn't understand it was a beta and thought they were playing the actual game which seems to be a trend now. Don't let the naysayers put you
off this game.

One of the PC's communities biggest gripes is the lack of mod support which is irrelevant to the console crowd but could very well be a deal breaker for the PC crowd. That could easily change in the future. Other than that the complaints were about the car
handling which was being tweaked weekly which is what I expect during a beta. This is what happens when you open beta's up to anyone and it may come back to hurt sales.

 

@rand.. how were the cars? I heard that they say there's 500 (example) yet most are just clones of each other in different 'shells' or too many variants of the same car?

That's one of the issues with trying to keep the console and PC crowds both happy.

The PC sim racers simply want the racing series (GT, Nascar Late Model, Skippy, etc etc) so all you need are the real world cars or even generic versions of the cars in those series. Physics and the MP (ability to form leagues and organize series) are really
all that matters.

The console crowd wants the SP "campaign" and 100's of cars even if those cars aren't to be found in any racing series. We've become accustomed to collecting and unlocking cars on the console. If they don't include enough cars the console crowd may feel
cheated on content.

When I was in the beta there were probably no more than 10 cars all representing different series. I don't know what their plan is at this point. I would hope they stay true to the racing series. As a sim racer I find it ruins my experience when I'm running
a MP race with a field of GT cars with one guy running a 62 Volk Bug that's been "tuned" and he's lapping us, takes the realism out of it.

 

I agree with randver on this one. Console racing games have dropped the ball when it comes to purist racing. Gone are the days when you would do events in classes and on tracks that match real world series'. I remember even when the first toca came out on
ps1, it was at least based on 1 racing series and tried to be a reflection of the real world. Even in race drive 3 (one of my favs) had a lot of cars but they remained drivable only withing that clas and series. These days you race a ford against Ferrari on
a track that is fictional at times. I for one certainly miss the old days of dedicated racing sims!
