program/app/game suspended it task manager

Welcome to Xbox Community Forum. Thank you for sharing your concern with us today and we hope that all is well.

We understand that you are trying to launch Gears 5 and Halo Infinite and is unable to because of games are suspended in Task Manager. Let us check on this together and sort this out in timely manner.

We appreciate that you have provided the troubleshooting you have performed while trying to resolve this issue. To properly isolate your concern, we will be asking some questions. Please provide details/information for us to give more accurate resolution for you.

1. May we confirm if you have installed these games from Microsoft Store? If yes, is the issue happening when you install an app too?
   
2. Do we have any antivirus, antimalware, VPN, firewall, proxy and PC Optimizer installed in PC?
   
3. When did this issue happen? Was there a recent Windows update or new application installed on your device?
   
4. May we ask if the device and Xbox apps were updated? If not yet, please check the guides below to start the update.
   
   • Install PC updates including Optional Update. Guide - Update Windows and if you have issues with update, please check the troubleshooting steps available here - Troubleshoot problems updating Windows.
     
   • Please do the update of drivers, guide - update drivers in Windows.
     
     • NVIDIA
       
     • AMD
       
   • Sign into the Microsoft Store and please update all the Xbox apps by following this guide: Get updates for apps and games in Microsoft Store
     
   • Clear the store cache by typing “wsreset” in the Windows search bar. Run this as admin and wait for the screen to close and open the store automatically.
     

Additional suggested troubleshooting you can perform:

1. Reset/Repair Microsoft Store and Xbox app (if using). Guide - Repair apps and programs in Windows.
   
2. Try reinstalling the Gaming Services package on your Windows 10 device:
   
   • Right-click the Start button in the lower-left corner of the main screen, and then select Windows PowerShell (Admin).
     
   • In the Administrator: Windows PowerShell screen, type the following command and press Enter:
     
     Get-AppxPackage *gamingservices* -allusers | remove-appxpackage -allusers
     
   • Wait for the process to finish and then restart the PC and try again.
     
3. Restart and disable all antivirus, antimalware, VPN, proxy, firewall and PC Optimizer.

If you're on Windows 8.1, closing an app doesn't really close it, but only suspends it, which can lead to hangs like this. To see if this is your issue, hit CTRL-Shift-ESC to bring up the Task Manager, hit "End Task" on Mahjong if it's in the list, then
restart the app.

Logging off then back on Windows or restarting would work as well, but ending the task and relaunching is quicker.

Open the task manager (right click on the task bar then choose task manager) and see if the game is running, if not, you may have to reinstall your Xbox app
