Profiles : preventing use of, and editing profile name

Hi

My daughter (9 years old) has an xBox One. She has a profile (and a Microsoft account) as do I. We are both able to edit both the gamer tag AND the name of our profile. My daughter recently allowed her two cousins to create profiles, however we cannot edit
their profile names - only the gamer tags associated with their profiles. Why is this?

Also, in order to prevent anyone using my profile in any games, should I just log out every time? Or is there a better way to protect my profile and prevent it from being used - perhaps a passkey - or only allowing it to sign me in if it detects my face??

I cant change my name,location or bio from my xbox. I also tried from xbox.com and i was sent to a webpage with the text "YOU FOUND A GLITCH IN THE SYSTEM" pleas-e help I dont know what to do

 

For the latter question, preventing access to your own profile, go to Settings>Sign In, Security & Passkey and there you will be able to change sign-in and security preferences, as well as create a passkey.

As for the other profiles, are you able to change their GTs freely? If so, it sounds likely those are offline profiles, which are not the same as the online accounts with profile details that you and your daughter seem to have, which would explain why you
cannot add a profile name. If so, I think those profiles would also be unable to add friends, and there would be no Microsoft Account attached. And the names you are editing are for the Microsoft Account.

If, however, they are full online Gamertags, you should be able to edit the associated names of the Microsoft Account by logging into
https://account.live.com with the respective associated email addresses and passwords.

Re security - what do you suggest as the best low-level protection for a profile?

Re my nieces' gamer tags : yes, they seem to be able to change them freely - well, I changed them once for them. However I can't seem to edit the profile name. I do know that they attached email addresses to the profiles.

What's the deal with the "friends" thing? Is that so one can "see" each other when online?

If you go into Sign-In & Security Preferences, set it to 'ask for my passkey' if you want it to always ask for your passkey before signing in or buying things. Although if you still want to be signed in automatically when Kinect sees you, use 'check that
it is me' and it will still ask you for the passkey when making purchases or if you sign in with a controller.

You're permitted to make one free change per gamertag after creation, so that could be the reason for that. Can you use those email addresses to sign into
https://account.live.com? From there you should be able to edit the profile name, which will be reflected on the console.

I'll have to pry the email and passwords from my nieces (8 and 11...wish me luck!) - the ones they used to register their accounts.
