Please Help; my sons life is in complete ruin and he cannot carry on until his xbox is fixed. Joking of course but we still need help.

We received our xbox360 about a little more than a year ago at our schools auction, it has had no issues until now. We do not use it for online games just discs. All of a sudden out of the blue when the kids turned the console on all their profiles were
gone. There appeared an update required prompt so they followed it and the update failed listing a status code ; 3F4A-0000-3000-0800-D000-0185. We tried cleaning the disc and using other discs with the same problem. I tried clearing the system cache with no
luck. At one point there was a prompt stating that if they wanted to create a profile they needed use a USB device. We didn't need that before so I'm not sure why we would need this now. I don't know what lead up to that prompt because it was before I got
involved. We appreciate any and all advice so our household can exist in harmony once again.

    :)

  2. Status Code: 3f45-0000-3000-0800-D000-0185

Still trying to connect to Xbox Live after the update but everytime I run a connection test, I get this status code 3f45-0000-3000-0800-D000-0185

Anybody know what that might relate to?

    Hi there,

Error D000-0185 occurs when you try to download an update

    Problem

You see error code D000-0185 or the following message when you’re trying to download an update:

Can't download the update. To test your connection, open System Settings and select Network Settings, Test Xbox Live Connection.

If the problem persists, go to www.xbox.com/support

This may mean that a storage device (memory unit or hard drive) was not found during the software update.

    Solution

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:

    1.Turn off your console.

2.Remove all console storage devices, including any USB flash drives, external hard drive, or internal hard drive from the Xbox 360 console. Learn how to remove the hard drive.

3.Add your primary storage device, for example, the hard drive.

    4.Turn on the console.

    5.Try updating the console again.

So it would appear there is a problem with the storage device on the xbox. If you go to settings/ system/ storage do you see any storage device that shows as unformatted ?

    .

Do you actually see any storage devices at all ?

The memory unit has 1.2 GB free space. We have never used any additional external storage devices and we are not connected online. I will try removing the internal hard drive and reconnecting as suggested.

If you select the memory unit do all the files show a size of 0Kb ? that's usually a good indication of some major corruption that can often be fixed by formatting the memory unit. In some cases even if the files all look good a format will often fix things.

The memory unit shows ; Profiles 3MB, Gamer Pictures 72kb and system items 96kb all the other files show 0kb. Haven't gotten to the hard drive yet (damn summer break) but will also see about reformatting after lunch.

For now I'd concentrate on the memory unit alone. The updates are always downloaded to the primary storage device which would be the internal memory unit. I don't believe there would be any need to format the hard drive just the memory unit.

    Just in case.

    .

    Format a storage device

Important When you format a storage device, all of the information saved on that device is erased and cannot be recovered. Make sure that you either do not want the information stored on that device or have backed up the information to another device before
    you continue.

    To format a storage device

1.Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Settings, and select System Settings.

    2.Select Storage or Memory.

3.Select the storage device that you want to format and then press Y on your controller.

4.Select Format. You will see the following message:

This will delete all content on this device. Do you wish to continue?

5.Select Yes to format the storage device.

6.If you are asked to enter your console serial number, do so and then select Done. This step helps to guard against accidental formatting.

The console serial number is located on the back of the console and behind the oval door on the front of the console.

Already formatted storage device and transferred desired content to device, not sure what to do now as the transferred content of course is still corrupt.

Did you manage to get the Xbox updated ? if not then I'm afraid that it appears to be that the internal memory unit has failed. You would need to arrange a repair Profiles deleted/update required/update failed/disc unreadable/status code; ... :(

If you did manage to get the Xbox updated and are finding the data is also corrupted on the hard drive you may need to format that too.

    .

Any games etc can be downloaded again by going to settings/ account/ download history.

Disc Unreadable Error while joining servers in Battlefield 3

Update: After deleting my Xbox LIve profile and reloading, it is still giving me the disc unreadable error. I narrowed down the problem I think, though... The issue is definitely the Multiplayer Update 4. I attempted to run a campaign mission only to get
the unreadable disc error as the level was loading up. I went to my storage window and deleted the multiplayer update 4 from my HDD and then tried to load up another campaign mission. Worked perfectly... No Disc Unreadable error. There is definitely something
    wrong with this update.
