problems with xbox wireless adapter for win 10

I have the same problem... Win 10 x64

Bought the adapter just today... First didn't got recognized (only XBOX ACC was shown under device manager). after manually download the driver from the ms site (http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=xbox%20adapter - thx to http://mattpilz.com/fix-for-xbox-one-wireless-adapter-not-working-in-windows-10-xbox-acc-driver/),
it was available under Network adapters (Xbox Wireless Adapter). After a system reboot, the device got the same message as BlackchiefPrime already said. (operation failed, the requested operation was unsuccessful). No light or any sound when plug in the adapter
resp. press the sync button...

Summary: I fixed it by plugging USB cable into a controller and pc, win 10 recognized it, system restart was required and after that controller was working wirelessly also.

Longer description: I installed fresh windows 10, downloaded and installed all win updates, then I tried all these steps and at the end controller started working.

1) plugged wireless adapter into USB windows 10 recognized it but Xbox one controller won't connect (keep on blinking)

2) plugged wireless adapter into another USB port but Xbox one controller won't connect (keep on blinking)

3) plugged wireless adapter into another USB port started task manager removed Xbox one adapter, windows found it again but still noting (gamepad keep on blinking)

4) plugged wireless adapter into another USB port (front) started task manager removed Xbox one adapter and Xbox drivers, windows found it again installed it but still noting (gamepad keep on blinking)

5) FINALLY, I fixed it by plugging USB cable into a controller and pc, win 10 recognized it, system restart was required and after that controller was working wirelessly also.

Bought the dongle this week and BSOD mt7612us.sys every time very shortly after starting to stream from XBONE. Controller works perfectly hard wired. The PC is Win 10 32bit. Updated the firmware on the controller, the mediatek update on the PC and the wireless
adapter driver update but still BSOD. It is not interference. The wireless adapter works fine on my other Win 10 PC, which is a 6 month old 64bit machine but I didn't buy it for this one. Not happy!

I would suspect it will only work with Win 10 given this:

"For use with the Xbox One Wireless Controller or Xbox Wireless Controller and controller compatible games on PCs and Tablets running Windows 10 with USB 2.0 or USB 3.0"

I also found a thread from 3 years ago where the OP quoted an Xbox page (no longer available) and it apparently quoted this:

"The wireless adaptator for windows 10 has been made to be used on windows 10 only. The old wireless adaptator xbox for windows works on device running windows 10, windows 8.1 and windows 7. "

So, you'd need one of the older generation Wireless adapters (released in 2015 apparently) ...however, given their age I would doubt it would work with a new gen controller
