problems with streaming video from PC to Xbox one s

for some reason when I try to cast a video to the Xbox, it launches an app called Film and TV where it says some error. this is weird so I tried launching media player and then casting but same thing. I also tried opening a movie from the Xbox on the PC
DLNA but that too would not work. something is seriously wrong here and it bugs me that I can't find any posts on this issue. who can help?

Streaming video from PC to Xbox One

I just got my Xbox One setup (hooray), and I'm trying to stream video from my PC to my Xbox One. I have a PC set up with Media Center which is sharing all my videos on the network. I know Media Center is no longer a thing in Xbox One, so I went to Xbox Video
instead to play my networked video files (seeing as Xbox Video on my PC can do this, I figured that was the logical place to start). After browsing around the app for a couple of minutes I could not find any option to do this.

Eventually, I found an incredibly roundabout way of doing this: Open up the Xbox Video app on my Windows 8 device, playing the video there, then using the charms to go to Devices > Play > Xbox (after adding it to my Devices first). This is an absolutely
*mind boggling* flow, and it absolutely *sucks*.

If I did not have a Windows 8 device, would I be left without the functionality to stream video to my Xbox One? Is there a quicker and easier way to do this?

Right now I'm getting a little sad from all of the bad UI experiences I'm encountering on my Xbox One, and I had really hoped at least this one, very, very, basic scenario would be supported out of the box... But it doesn't appear to be the case?

Sorry... I have just sat down after a very long drive and am not thinking (or typing) straight. Forgot to say that the tools mentioned are 'free' (although they will take your money via subscriptions), and very well documented and supported. There are
other options available, although I haven't used them (if it ain't broke...!)

Hey there,

Launching Film & TV is correct, that's the app used by the Xbox when casting to it. Try uninstalling Film and TV them reinstalling it. With the anniversary update it switched from an Xbox App to a UWP app, that might be where you're having issues.

Is it one particular video you are having issues with, or all of your videos? What format are they? Also, Is everything connected over WiFi or Ethernet, or a combination?

 

My advice is dont use the built in apps as there terrible and picture quality encounters loss,install PLEX my friend as its the best you can use and its free unless you want premium features
