Problems with sound streaming Xbox to Windows 10

When I first started streaming to Windows 10, I had some trouble getting sound.

The Xbox One is in my home theater, downstairs, connected to an audio/video receiver and projector. I have several Windows 10 PCs, but the one I generally use for streaming is upstairs, also connected to an audio/video receiver.

The initial problem I had was that if the receiver downstairs was off, I would not get sound from the streaming PC upstairs. When I turned the downstairs receiver on, I got 5.1 sound from streaming PC. Naturally, most people aren't going to want to have
to have their TV or receiver on in order to stream to another device, but after searching the web a bit I found that the solution was to unselect the "Auto-detect" setting and manually select the appropriate output, video, and audio settings. For me this would
be HDMI, 1080p, and 5.1 uncompressed. This made everything work fine whether the receiver connected to the Xbox was on or off.

Since the update this week, this option is gone. The Xbox insists on autodetecting the settings, and if the receiver connected to it is off, it turns off the HDMI audio and sound from the streaming PC is also gone. If I use the streaming PC to go to "Settings
    > Display & sound > Audio output" it shows HDMI audio and Optical audio both off, and if I try to turn any audio on I get an error message that says "Check your audio receiver" etc. (error 0x80bd0009). When I turn the receiver downstairs on, HDMI audio 5.1
is automatically selected and I get sound from the streaming PC.

Ideally the solution would be for the Xbox app to check the audio settings on the computer, communicate this to the Xbox, and stream in this format. That way I would automatically get stereo sound on my laptop and 5.1 on my upstairs media PC. It would also
be nice be able to turn the Xbox on from the Xbox app and have the Xbox differentiate that network power-on from a local power-on so that it would not send a signal to turn on the TV/receiver when powered on from a remote computer using the Xbox app. Whether
any of this will ever get implemented is questionable. What I'm wondering is if anyone is aware of any way to get around this for now. It's not really an option to have the receiver downstairs on to play the Xbox upstairs, and it's likewise not an option to
play the Xbox without sound. Any ideas or solutions? Any chance this will get fixed soon?

    :)

Xbox one streaming to Windows 10 no sound

    Hi there!

I believe the ability to stream to Windows 10 is an Xbox Preview feature, and therefore must be discussed in the Xbox One Preview Forums on the Windows 10 Insider Section.

    XBOX 360 and Game Streaming

Are you trying to stream a game from Xbox 360 to Windows 10? That's not supported - the media center of old was for streaming videos and songs.

There is a way to stream Xbox 360 games to Windows 10, but it involved using an Xbox One and playing the backwards compatible Xbox 360 on the Xbox 360, then streaming the Xbox One to Windows 10.

    Stream xbox using chromebook (Linux)

It really wont work on any operating system other than windows 10. The windows 10 app is the only legitimate way to stream your xbox to play on the move. Personally i use a macbook with windows 10 bootcamped on it, native support for the controller is good,
as is the ability to use game sound/ party chat through the macbook
