Problems with initial set up, 

I don't know if anyone else has had this problem but when I turned my children's xbox one on all I get is a picture on the screen of the controller with the 'X' button flashing. I've synced the controller as it turns on the console but no matter what this
is as far as it goes. What a let down

HI, When i originally set up my xbox one, im sure i chose the option to make updates automatic however i have since been prompted to download an update for fifa and killer instinct myself. Is there a way to go back and look at or change this initial choice?

Try a hard re-boot if you haven't already. Also, be patient with it. The first updates take time. Do not shut off in the middle of an update or you really will have some problems.

 

What kind of controller did you get like brand name? Is that the one that came in with the system or was this an after market purchase to add more remotes? I've only seen Xbox One controllers made by Microsoft/Xbox so if it's like a aftermarket brand like
those pelican remotes i know of some people who have had problems with those aftermarket ones but never the one from the actual company that's why I don't mind paying the extra 5-10 dollars more cause I have y have anything made from the same company and not
work such has the Microsoft remotes

Have you tried to assign that remote to a profile yet? Cause if its not a cheap after market brand and its from Microsoft depending where you bought it you should have some kind of return or exchange policy like Walmart i know has 30 days on electronics
even things small as a remote. What kind of remote is it and where did u get it? U said that white light in the middle top with Xbox kinda new logo in black kinda,right?

 

I had the same problem the other night setting it up.

What you do is click the button on the left side of the xbox right by the disc tray.

Click that button, wait about 10 seconds. Then press the middle button on the controller to turn it on, and then hit the sync button on the controller. The sync button is the little button behind the Big X white button.

I know how you feel, took me forever to figure it out

 

OP states in title... INITIAL SET UP so I am pretty sure the make of the controller has zero effect on his problem...

At first it will sit there for a few minutes not doing anything.. especially with XBL having intermittent problems all day by being hacked...

Normally it takes about 15 minutes.. might take much longer today as the overload of servers that are somewhat crippled as they are...

just let it run its course to get the set up going... just give it some time..

 

I have the same problem. I'm stuck on the screen with the controller. The controller just blinks on the home button. Tried syncing over and over. Tried unplugging the console several times. I tried with two different official Xbox one remotes. Looked up
all kinds of solutions ont the internet and you tube videos, but nothing has worked. I'm about to give up and return this thing. Anyone else with some other solutions?
