Hi guys,

I'm getting at the end of my tether trying to install this Xbox One Wireless Controller adaptor on my Windows 10 PC.

Every time I try and plug it in to install the following occurs:

Plug and play detects the hardware

Watching through Device Manager, the device changes from XBOX ACC to Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows

The installation is marked as "complete"

A yellow warning triangle appears next to the device

LED power / sync light is not switched on, the adapter is completely unresponsive

The following error message is given in the Device Manager:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

{Operation Failed}

The requested operation was unsuccessful.

No combination of possible fixes I've tried works - every method of attempting to install another driver fails as Windows tells me the most up to date driver is installed. This is when attempting to update via the internet, or update via driver files I've
downloaded from the Microsoft Software Catalog.

Does anyone have any advice on how to properly fix this, or will I have to bite the bullet and take the dongle back to the shop for a replacement? The only thing I haven't managed to do is to test on another PC to determine if the fault lies with the dongle
itself or some obtuse incompatibility on my PC. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows Problems

Installs and connects to controller. However once a game is started, the game detects constant trigger pull that is not occurring. I believe this a problem of the driver file xboxgip.sys that it uses. I had the same problem using the XBox One controller
WIRED to my win 10 pc. It installed the same xboxgip.sys driver. Only after downloading and manually installing drivers from "Major Nelson" website did it work correctly. Connecting the wireless adapter auto installs drivers for the adapter itself as well
as the controller connecting to it and there is no way I know of to change the driver of just the wireless controller.

Its frustrating that there is no manual driver install for the adapter as Microsoft is determined to keep this adapter a Windows 10 Exclusive. Might help fix this issue. Next step will probably do a clean install of windows if only to rule out any old 360
drivers or third party drivers interfering. The 360 version worked flawlessly and I loved the product. Been waiting two years for this device to let me down.

here Microsoft has decided to not make drivers for Windows 7 and Windows 8 - When will they decide to make drivers for the majority of the PC's deployed in the world...?

Bought the adapter just today... First didn't got recognized (only XBOX ACC was shown under device manager). after manually download the driver from the ms site (Microsoft Update Catalog - thx to Fix for Xbox One Wireless Adapter Not Working in Windows 10 - XBOX ACC Driver | Matt's Repository),
it was available under Network adapters (Xbox Wireless Adapter). After a system reboot, the device got the same message as BlackchiefPrime already said. (operation failed, the requested operation was unsuccessful). No light or any sound when plug in the adapter
resp. press the sync button...

Yeah, all of the standard procedure troubleshooting I did long before coming here and asking.

Reloading drivers, rebooting, trying a different USB port, trying the USB adapter and controller on a different computer, etc.

It's clearly a driver problem, and one I was able to resolve for now by installing the "optional" drivers in Windows Update for the wireless xbox adapter. The drivers that automatically install on Windows 20H2 are the problem.

I have a similar problem, when I connect my controllers trough the wireless adapter they are not working correctly because I have a Z axis and Z Rotation. WHen I used my controller wired with a USB cable I had this problem and I could fix roll back the drivers
and the controller went back to the original X, Y, Z Axis, but now, with the Wireless adapter, I can't do that, because I doesn't let me update, because there's no Xbox Periphals to change the driver.

That's because the driver is not correctly installed,

Because the drivers for the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows are embedded within the Windows 10/11 operating system, the adapter should auto-install. If it doesn't, try the following solutions:

Make sure your Windows device is connected to the internet.

Make sure Windows is up to date by going to Windows Update on your device and checking for available updates.

Reboot your device and try again.

Ensure your USB ports are not disabled in Device Manager.

Try another USB 2.0 or 3.0 port.

Try reinstalling the drivers in case they have partially installed. To do so, you need to uninstall the drivers. Follow these steps to complete this process:

Go to Device Manager.

Locate Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows in the Network adapters section.

Select Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows to bring up the Properties window.

Select the Driver tab.

On the Driver tab, select Uninstall or Uninstall Device (depending on your version of Windows).

On the confirmation window, check the Delete the driver software for this device box.

Unplug the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows and reboot your Windows device. Once the device is back on, plug in the adapter.

If the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows still does not install, follow all of the above steps thoroughly one more time. If this doesn't work, your adapter might need to be replaced.

Ok, so the problem is solved now. Here are the steps I followed.

- Uninstalled Xbox Accesories App

- Uninstalled all Driver in the Device Manager related to "Xbox Controller" and "Xbox Wireless Adapter"

- Unplugged the Wireless Adapter

- Turn off Bluetooth

- Turn off the PC

- Reset the Xbox Series Controller pairing (Hold connect button for x seconds)

- Turn off Xbox Series Controller

- Boot the PC

- Insert the Wireless Adapter -> Drivers are installed automatically

- Turn on Xbox Series controller

- Succesfully paired with the Wireless Adapter!!

- Install Xbox Accesories App -> Controller recognized

- Turn on Bluetooth

Thanks for the answer, Kathy and sorry for the delay but life prevented me from answering earlier.

The fact that running a simple troubleshooting routine solved it points at a software issue so I don´t expect to have this problem again.

Hope this helps someone.
